Produced by (or on behalf of) Newark International Airport, it purports to show regional rail services that you can connect to at the airport via its AirTrain. However, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s so poorly thought out and executed that it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s of very little assistance at all.

The 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划and most obvious problem is that everything – and I mean everything🔸澳洲幸运10预测 – is way too small. Labelling is tiny, with even smaller lozenges and bullets underneath the labels that may or may not contain the names of the different regional services and New York Subway lines: they🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页re almost entirely illegible. And it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not like the canvas has no space to spare – there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s acres of room to make labels much, much bigger and more legible.

Speaking of the canvas, it really doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t seem to have been used wisely. Why bother showing most of the New York Subway, 🔸澳洲开奖 a simple indication of connecting lines at Penn Station and PATH🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s WTC station would suffice? Why show the Staten Island Railway at all 🔸澳洲开奖 it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s most certainly not a direct connection? This map would be so much more effective if it just concentrated on the regional lines that it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s meant to showcase and just indicated further connecting services where they occur. Get rid of the wasted space allocated to extraneous elements and enlarge the important parts for clarity.

Then there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s the background that can🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t decide if it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a diagram or a map, wavering between simplicity and “geography” just about everywhere. And the way that the text indicating travel times cuts across the route lines 🔸澳洲开奖 there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s absolutely no need for them to do so. Simply aligning the text to the right would instantly solve this problem!

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测I really try to be more positive with my reviews these days, and look for at least one cool thing or redeeming feature to comment on for every map I post, but… I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve got nothing here. To be honest, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s kind of embarrassing that passengers are presented with this 🔸澳洲开奖 considering their transportation options to and from the airport.

Project: Diagram of Amtrak Rail Services, May 1971🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/amtrak-may-1971-cameron-booth/ https://transitmap.net/amtrak-may-1971-cameron-booth/#comments Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:45:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=13409 🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸May 1, 2021 marks Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s 50th anniversary! On that day in 1971, most🔸澳洲幸运10预测 regional and long-distance trains in the United States either disappeared or became part of the new national rail carrier🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s network (there were some exceptions to this rule, which we🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ll get to later). While there are plenty of maps out there that show the general extent of Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s nascent system — including one that I made myself as part of an historical series — there aren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t any that break things down to the actual routes that were available from that day. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve been meaning to make just such a map for a while now, and the silver anniversary finally gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to get it done! Read more and see the map after the jump.

View the map in the window below – you can zoom in and out, pan around, and also go full screen. Or, you can also click here to experience the map in a full browser window. Read on underneath the map for a comprehensive overview of the design process.

Some Preliminary Notes

🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划off, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s important to recognise that the map actually shows service as it existed at the end🔸澳洲幸运10预测 of May, 1971 – it just seemed churlish to leave a couple of routes off just because they started running a few days later than May 1 (New York to Chicago via Albany on May 10, and New York to Boston via Springfield on May 17). Other routes that began running later in 1971 – the West Virginian🔸澳洲幸运10预测, the North Coast Hiawatha🔸澳洲幸运10预测 and the Illinois Zephyr🔸澳洲幸运10预测 – have been omitted, however. I had to draw the line somewhere, and the end of May seemed like a fair place.

The other thing to note is that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve used names for all the routes to make identification easier and consistent, even if some of those names weren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t actually in use at the time. While many routes carried prestigious names over from their pre-Amtrak days – the Silver Star🔸澳洲幸运10预测, Super Chief/El Capitan🔸澳洲幸运10预测, Broadway Limited🔸澳洲幸运10预测, etc. – others remained without official names until late 1971 or even later. On the other hand, many trains plying the Northeast Corridor bore individual names for each train number, which would simply be too unwieldy for a diagram such as this. So I hope you forgive me this one concession to simplicity – names that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve brought forward in time a little are marked with an asterisk in the legend.

Wherever possible, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve used the information from the May 1, 1971 Amtrak timetable, only referring to more recent editions 🔸澳洲开奖 that one was demonstrably incorrect (see below). Further listings of the trains as they existed on that day (here and here) were also invaluable in solving some mysteries.

Design

I definitely wanted this diagram to look like it could actually be🔸澳洲幸运10预测 from 1971, so I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve consciously designed it in a very modernist style. Thick, brightly coloured route lines that butt up to each other with black dots for station markers are right out of the Vignelli playbook, while the typography is Akzidenz Grotesk (as used by the New York Subway before🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Helvetica took over). All the labels are very tightly letter-spaced to give it that really authentic 1970s look, and I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve hand-kerned the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s title to get it looking just right. Some lovely subtle paper texture and slightly out-of-register CMYK halftone dots complete the vintage look: one might even think that this diagram was printed as a poster or newspaper insert to commemorate Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划day.

Frequency

Of everything I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve done with this diagram, this is the part I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m most proud of: a simple, elegant way to encode frequency information into the design without having to change the thickness of route lines or use dashes or other esoteric symbology. Thin lines underneath each route bullet at termini simply count the number of trains that run each day: one per line. A thicker line denotes a multiple of five to enable quicker counting. As an example, a thick line plus f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划thin lines equals nine trains per day (5 plus 4). The system also handles trains that don🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t run on weekends, or only three or f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划times a week, or even if a train changes its frequency at a station (daily in one direction, but only tri-weekly in the other). It can even help show service patterns – there are six Empire Service🔸澳洲幸运10预测 trains a day from Grand Central Terminal: three only go as far as Albany, while the other three continue on to Buffalo.

The Other Railroads

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a well-known fact that the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划Amtrak timetable is ever-so-slightly wrong. Having been prepared and printed in advance, it simply couldn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t have anticipated that at the eleventh h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划some railroads would refuse to join Amtrak and instead continue to operate their own passenger rail services. Two of these railroads are shown on this diagram – the Southern Railway🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s services from Washington, DC through Atlanta to New Orleans, and the Denver & Rio Grande Western🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s Rio Grande Zephyr🔸澳洲幸运10预测 from Denver to Ogden via Salt Lake City. Eventually, these routes would end up being absorbed by Amtrak, which is why I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve chosen to include them on this diagram: the former as today🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s Crescent🔸澳洲幸运10预测, and the latter as part of the California Zephyr🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s🔸澳洲幸运10预测 route from Chicago to Oakland.

However, other passenger railroads that existed into the Amtrak era never became part of it, so I made the decision to omit them (for this reason and for overall clarity of the design). The Georgia Railroad ran a daily mixed-car train from Atlanta to Augusta in order to fulfill a requirement of its charter to offer passenger services, but the journey could take hours longer than scheduled because of the freight-based nature of the train. The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad continued to run intercity trains from Chicago to Peoria and Rock Island as a “public service to the state of Illinois” after deciding the fee to join Amtrak was too high. Service ended in 1978 as ridership dropped off completely. And finally, the South Shore Line continues to provide interurban service between Chicago and South Bend today.

Miscellany

The Clamdigger🔸澳洲幸运10预测 (local service between New London and New Haven once a day on weekdays only!) has to be the weirdest service that Amtrak inherited. It only lasted until January 1972 before being axed, so it seems they thought it was pretty weird as well.

Similarly, Batavia must have been a pretty useless station: only one northbound train stopped at it each day and there was no return southbound service! It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not listed in the July 1971 timetable, so it seems like it was very short-lived.

Showing both of the Chicago termini turned out to be far easier than I thought it was going to be 🔸澳洲开奖 I started. The way that the Abraham Lincoln/The National🔸澳洲幸运10预测 line is able to drop straight down to St. Louis because of the way I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve aligned the stations was just an absolute bonus.

Those sneaky separate stations in Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia almost tripped me up both times! I knew about the two different Pomona stations in California, though.

The intertwining of routes in Florida is my favourite part of the diagram, but I had to redraw it three times to get it looking just right.

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d be nice to be able to show the original – and never realised – plan to reroute the Texas Chief🔸澳洲幸运10预测 through Dallas. The map in the May 1971 timetable shows a proposed stop at Waxahachie on the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad (BRI), so it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not the same as the 1973 plan to run through Bryan–College Station via the Southern Pacific. I suspect further stops would have been at Corsicana and Teague (following in the footsteps of previous BRI passenger services like the Sam Houston Zephyr🔸澳洲幸运10预测), but I haven🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t seen anything definitive yet.

As always, let me know what you think! Despite my best efforts, I feel sure there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s going to be both factual errors and typos, so do let me know if you think I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve made one! Prints are available in the store, as both a clean design and as the “vintage print” version seen here.

Submission – 🔸澳洲幸运10在线人工计划网: West Palm Beach LRT by Adam Susaneck🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/antasy-map-west-palm-beach-adam-susaneck/ https://transitmap.net/antasy-map-west-palm-beach-adam-susaneck/#respond Wed, 07 Apr 2021 15:00:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=13346 Submitted by Adam, who says:

Here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s my proposal for a low-floor LRT system in Downtown, West Palm Beach, FL (pop. ~110,000). It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s fun to think about as West Palm actually grew up as a fairly dense railroad town in the 1920s around the Seaboard and FEC stations. Wedged between two large lakes and the intercoastal waterway, the downtown is a fairly dense north-south oriented grid, with a mix of historic homes and apartment towers. The higher-speed train system Brightline has recently started operating between Downtown Miami and West Palm Beach on the FEC tracks, though it shut for COVID (however Brightline is using the closure to expedite resignalling and track work for an ongoing extension to Orlando).

On the Blue Line, through downtown this system travels on Olive Avenue and Dixie Highway. A redesigned traffic pattern would discourage drivers from using these two roads, and would instead encourage them to use the much wider Quadrille Avenue. This would entail a series of required turnoffs at every intersection, such as is used on Market Street in San Francisco.

On the Pink Line, as it exits the airport it utilizes the space around the existing Tri-Rail ROW to cross the very-wide Belvedere Blvd. After crossing Belvedere, it proceeds at-grade underneath the elevated I-95 ROW, at which point it starts street running on Belvedere Blvd.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

As always, I can🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t really comment on the feasibility or likelihood of such a project – although it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s definitely nice to dream of a future where Brightline, Tri-Rail and Amtrak services in southern Florida are complemented by comprehensive light rail “feeder systems” in the major cities along their routes.

The 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划thing I noticed about this map was the superb treatment of the aerial photography base map. It looks like Adam has made great use of the Gradient Map effect in Photoshop to create a stylish dark grey-to-black effect that really allows his route line colours to pop out of the background, but still retain a lot of detail in the photo. I love it, and I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m totally 🔸澳洲幸运10预测using this look next time I have to make a map using aerial imagery. The white labels stand out nicely as well, the yellow Brightline route and text is acceptable, but the green Tri-Rail line and text is just a little hard to make out. Some minor tweaking/brightening of colours will solve this in no time, however.

Adam has chosen to represent one-way sections of the routes with thinner lines, which is a perfectly acceptable solution. However, he🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s kept the thinner lines centred on the thicker part and has also🔸澳洲幸运10预测 reduced the thickness of the white keyline that separates the background from the route lines. This makes the transition between the thick and thin sections very abrupt as the line weight suddenly “steps down”, and the thinner white outline makes the narrower lines disappear into the background a bit. I always prefer to offset the thinner sections a bit to line up with the outer🔸澳洲幸运10预测 edges of the thicker line on both sides. Keeping the white border the same apparent thickness also helps a lot to ease the transition and keep the thinner route lines nicely separated from the background. See the image below for an example.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测A simple little fantasy system well rendered on a striking background image. Some minor improvements in col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划contrast for legibility and the depiction of one way sections could be made, but this is still rather lovely.

I thought you might enjoy poring over a transit+points of interest map I recently drew of Center City Philadelphia.

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve collected bird🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s eye urban panoramas since I was a child, and I particularly enjoy panoramas that have placemaking and wayfinding value, such as those drawn by Jenni Sparks and other artists.

I also find there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s no better way to learn and demystify seemingly-complex bus service than drawing it a couple times over. Taking the lead from SEPTA🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s own frequency map, here I attempted to demystify bus service for visitors by employing SEPTA🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s new color-coded frequency classification, and by winnowing a selection of bus routes that permit the easiest gridlike travel across Center City so visitors aren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t forced to rely only on the spartan axes of the MFL and BSL.

The map was also fueled by a longing and impatience for the points of interest to reopen so that all the attractions of Center City (and other cities) can once again be enjoyed after COVID. Here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s to a better 2021 and 2022 and to the hopeful revival of the urban flaneur!

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a sign of just how much I love this that I asked Marc whether I could share it in my new zoomable map format, just so you can all get in super close and see the wonderful detail in this map. I just adore🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the stylised, textured base map – an aerial image run through some artistic Photoshop filters that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s then been cleaned up manually and tinted to highlight points of interest and parkland, which sounds like a lot of painstaking, time consuming work. The end result is worth it, though – the city looks🔸澳洲幸运10预测 like a city, with recognisable buildings and landmarks. I particularly like the way that taller buildings obscure transit lines on streets that are further away from 🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划viewpoint – it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s this that really sells the dimensionality of the map, like we were in a hot air balloon tethered high above the streets below. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s very definitely evocative of those old birds-eye view maps that Marc mentions with such fondness.

Marc🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s other influence, Jenni Sparks, can certainly be seen in the juxtaposition of a detailed base map and bright, thick transit route lines, though Marc🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s map is less chaotic than Jenni🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s more organic illustrative pieces. Despite the busy background, all the transit lines stand out well and are easy to see and follow. I particularly like the way that Marc has added texture to the route lines so that they look like they belong to the rest of the map instead of just being plopped on top of it. If all this work wasn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t enough, Marc has also added some 245 points of interest to the map, making it an invaluable tool for visitors to the city. And really, that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s what this map should be for – printed and available for tourists in every bookstore and information bureau in the city: it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s just that good.

If I had one tiny complaint, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m personally not that fond of the playful, child-like typeface used for the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s title at the top left – but that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a pretty minor quibble on the whole of things. Wonderful work, Marc!

For those who are interested, Marc has made PDFs of the map that are available to download for personal, non-commercial use only.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸168澳洲十开奖网: BART System Map, 2020🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/bart-map-2020/ https://transitmap.net/bart-map-2020/#comments Mon, 18 May 2020 17:00:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=11840 A few requests for a review of this major revision of the Bay Area🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s BART map, so here goes…

This map is meant to be deployed 🔸澳洲开奖 service to Milpitas and Berryessa begins, so it won🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t be seen immediately – but it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s good that BART is planning ahead and getting this work done ahead of time.

Generally, there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a lot to like about this iteration – the stylised coastline suits the schematic treatment of the route lines far better than the old pseudo-geographic approach, for example. The Oakland Airport transfer at Coliseum is treated the same way as other transfers now, rather than the awkward way that a terminus bar butted up to the interchange circles in the previous map.

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s nice to see all the other rail transit options in the Bay Area on the map (ACE and VTA light rail have been added since the last edition), although I feel that the different line thicknesses (apparently to indicate level of service) are executed a little clumsily and are perhaps unnecessary on a map of this scope. At least this revision of the map corrects an error from a previous draft that had Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s Capitol Corridor🔸澳洲幸运10预测 and San Joaquin🔸澳洲幸运10预测 services diverging in the wrong place.

Because of the extra spacing given to BART services down the peninsula to Millbrae, the Caltrain stations south of that point get jammed together very tightly, which isn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t ideal. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m also not overly impressed with the blobby station markers used for these secondary services, as their size changes depending on the line thickness: at Santa Clara and Diridon, there are three different dot sizes adjacent to each other, which looks pretty haphazard.

Finally, although the new octolinear diagram looks fine, I do miss the distinctive slanted hexagonal treatment of the previous map… it was a distinctive design element that suited the layout of the network particularly well and set the BART map apart from so many other maps around the world.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Looking to the future with some style. The area around San Jose will probably be revisited and revised as services come online in the future. Three-and-a-half stars.

As you🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d expect from the acclaimed master of ski resort maps, the mountains in this map are gorgeously rendered, and Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s routes are drawn as straight red lines — almost as if they were ski lifts across the country. I particularly like it 🔸澳洲开奖 a route line “disappears” behind a particularly tall mountain — it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s something that really sells the implied dimensionality of the map.

It is perhaps unfortunate that some routes have been omitted from the map — none of the Michigan Services make it, nor the City of New Orleans🔸澳洲幸运10预测, which is almost unforgivable. Perhaps it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s better to treat this as a work of art than a practical map?

On a personal note, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m just happy to say that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve now been published in the same magazine as James Niehues — my Amtrak as Subway Map was the very 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划in this series of alternate Amtrak maps appearing in The National🔸澳洲幸运10预测, way back in December 2016/January 2017.

Future Map: Cascadia High-Speed Rail Network by Oran Viriyincy🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/cascadia-rail/ https://transitmap.net/cascadia-rail/#respond Wed, 14 Feb 2018 13:46:23 +0000 https://transitmap.net/cascadia-rail/ Created on behalf of a new advocacy group for true high-speed rail in the Pacific Northwest – the aptly named CascadiaRail – this is probably my favourite map of 2018 so far. It’s clear, beautiful, representative of the region, and is wonderfully aspirational – presenting a clear and exciting vision of a possible future.

I especially like that there’s no state or national borders shown at all: the region is instead defined by the natural geographical features that are such a part of its character: mountains, forested valleys, desert plains and mighty rivers.

Each of the f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划major Cascades peaks shown are depicted accurately – Mount Hood looks exactly like Mount Hood, for example – and they also have an extra layer of hidden meaning. As Oran told me today, these f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划mountains – Mount Baker, Mount Olympus, Mount Rainier and Mount Hood – also lent their names to the original f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划Amtrak Cascades Talgo VI trainsets. I do love a nice bit of symbolism tying the past and future together.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Yeah, I pretty much adore this. Four-and-a-half stars.

Here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a fun little project: an interactive timeline of Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s passenger rail routes from its inauguration in 1971 through to the current day. Using the extensive Amtrak timetable archives over at the Museum of Railway Timetables (well worth a visit!), I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve created maps in five year increments – 1971, 1976, 1981, etc. – that show the changing face of passenger rail in the United States over the last 40-plus years. Five year periods seemed to be a good compromise between showing long term trends and an awful lot of hard work. As it is, I still had to draw 12 separate maps! Similarly, the maps do🔸澳洲幸运10预测 indicate frequency, but only in very general categories of “Multiple Services Daily”, “Daily Service” and “Less than Daily Service”… thick, thin and dashed lines respectively.

The slideshow above allows you to compare years by clicking on the dots below the map. The slideshow doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t automatically advance, so you can take y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划time looking at each one. Flip back and forth between two different years if you want!

🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸Some notes:

  • The 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划map reflects the services as advertised in Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s inaugural timetable booklet from May, 1971. As the timetable had to be prepared, printed and distributed in advance of opening day, it doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t reflect the fact that some railroads – notably, the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) and the Southern Railway (SOU) – decided at the eleventh h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划to not join the new national rail corporation. As a result, some of the lines didn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t operate as shown on this map 🔸澳洲开奖 Amtrak commenced service. In some cases, it took several years before these routes came under Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s full control or were abandoned completely. I decided to include this map as a reminder of the original operating plan, sort of an unfulfilled Utopian dream.
  • As a result, the second map (from July 1971) better reflects what Amtrak actually looked like in those early times, with those few holdout competing railroads also indicated in grey.
  • Because of the five year increments, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s possible that some short-lived routes have slipped through the cracks. I apologise in advance if y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划favourite is missing.
  • I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve tried my best to indicate major route changes – such as the Sunset Limited🔸澳洲幸运10预测‘s 1996 change from Phoenix to Maricopa – 🔸澳洲开奖 they🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve occurred, but please do let me know if I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve missed any.
  • It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s very notable that changes to the network have slowed over the last 15 or so years, with only some very modest extensions and additions in that time, as well as the continued absence of the Sunset Limited🔸澳洲幸运10预测 east of New Orleans.
  • The 1991 map probably shows the network at its absolute zenith, with multiple routes out of Salt Lake City to the West Coast, multiple international routes to Montreal and Toronto, service to Mobile, AL and more! Note also the route to Atlantic City (now run by NJ Transit)… the 1991 timetable promotes the absolute heck out of this connection at every available opportunity.

As always, comments and corrections are most welcome!

Un168澳洲十开奖网 – Bay Area Rail One-Word Station Names by Brian Stokle🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/one-word-bay-area/ https://transitmap.net/one-word-bay-area/#respond Sat, 13 May 2017 05:28:36 +0000 https://transitmap.net/one-word-bay-area/

A tongue-in-cheek rationalisation of Bay Area rail transit to remove all the slashes in those terribly long and indecisive station names: North Concord/Martinez, Warm Springs/South Fremont, etc. Amusing, but also a pointed look at the peculiarly American habit of attempting to appease everyone 🔸澳洲开奖 it comes to naming stations.

Now, can someone do one of these for Washington, DC?
*cough* U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo *cough*

A Look at Amtrak Under the Proposed Federal Budget🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/amtrak-budget/ https://transitmap.net/amtrak-budget/#respond Sat, 15 Apr 2017 05:15:11 +0000 https://transitmap.net/amtrak-budget/

A federal budget outline from the Trump Administration looks to slash funding for rail transportation, including a complete elimination of federal funds for long-distance Amtrak routes like the Empire Builder, Southwest Chief and California Zephyr

The map above, adapted from my Amtrak as Subway Map project, shows what the “national” passenger rail network could look like under this proposal: isolated, separate rail services, with no cross-country connections and over 220 stations without Amtrak rail service. Chicago, once a thriving national rail hub, now only directly serves its immediate region and loses connections to New York, Boston, Washington DC, New Orleans, California, Seattle and Portland.

As well as this defunding of Amtrak, the budget proposal would cut almost $500 million from the TIGER grant program, and $2.3 BILLION from the successful New Starts funding program, often used by cities to kick-start new transit projects.

Read more in this National Association of Railroad Passengers press release, and make y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划voice heard if you oppose massive transit infrastructure cuts like this that affect so many people across America.
