Posted yesterday on the Commanders🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 Twitter account, here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a Washington Metro-themed map of the team🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s 2023 season. It basically just places the team🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s opponents for the year on a vaguely US-shaped map using some Metro iconography and colours and calls it a day. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s superficially fun and adorable, but part of me wishes there was more meaning behind the choice of lines – perhaps grouping teams by the division they play in or something🔸澳洲幸运10预测? Still, kudos for having fun with an iconic local design!

They’ve somewhat improved it, I suppose…

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Yes, this is certainly an improvement over the previous version of this strip map (October 2016, 1.5 stars). In fact, it’s an almost point-for-point response to my criticisms from that review: removal of the large shaded areas denoting not-so-new lines, 45-degree angled labels instead of the neck-cracking 90-degree angles, and a very welcome reworking of the central stations inset that actually indicates which direction the Green and Purple lines run in along Capitol and Rusk streets.

The map still isn’t outstanding by any means, but it’s always nice to see simple improvements making a difference in usability. Two-and-a-half stars.

Could a Tweak to the DC Metro Map Fix Overcrowding?🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/messing-with-the-map/ https://transitmap.net/messing-with-the-map/#respond Wed, 22 Feb 2017 22:58:40 +0000 https://transitmap.net/messing-with-the-map/ Here’s a quick link to an article in the Washington Post by Martine Powers about a study that shows how tinkering with Washington, DC’s Metrorail map influences rider’s perceptions of the system and which path they should take to reach their final destination.

In the image above, for example, the Blue Line has been altered to look less desirable than the Yellow Line 🔸澳洲开奖 coming into DC from the south… and in testing, there was a 9.5 percent increase in people choosing the Yellow Line over the Blue for their trips based on this map 🔸澳洲开奖 compared to the official one. Even experienced local commuters were influenced by edits like this to the map, which is kind of astounding.

It’s a fascinating insight into human psychology – we know that this is not a literal geographical representation of the system (MAP NOT TO SCALE!), and yet we still use it to make judgment calls about distance and time. As the author of the study, Zhan Guo, says,

“The conclusion is that people trust the map more than their experiences. Even for people who have used the system for many years, the map still matters.”

Houston light rail map (2016); one core line (red); two spurs (green/purple) with planned extensions shown.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

I can understand that METRO is proud of their two new lines, but at this point they’ve been open for almost a year and a half. I think we can lose the awkward “NOW OPEN” shaded boxes now and reserve that treatment solely for the future two-station extension to the Green Line. The shading is especially egregious where it overlaps the yellow “see inset” arrow… more on that inset later.

The complately vertical labels for most of the stations is also unfortunate: I can imagine everyone on the train turning their heads to the left to read them! Having one half of the labels along the Red Line sitting below the line and the other half above it – to allow room to put the METRO logo in the bottom right corner – also makes it harder to count stops along the line. The logo could move pretty easily to at the top right if the north pointer was shifted or resized, and labels set at a 45-degree angle would certainly be easier on the neck to read!

The inset! A great idea to show more detail where the all the lines intersect, but it’s very confusingly implemented. The main interchange is actually three separate platforms offset by about a city block or so. Northbound and southbound Red Line trains call at Central Station Main; westbound Green and Purple trains stop around the corner at Central Station Capitol, while eastbound Green and Purple trains use Central Station Rusk. The inset shows this arrangement fairly well, except it neglects to show the direction of travel along Capitol and Rusk streets for the Green and Purple lines! Even worse, both alignments have an arrow pointing eastbound (indicating the continuation of the lines off the edge of the inset), which makes things even more confusing. This is a really elementary thing to screw up quite so badly, and must be really, really annoying for those unfamiliar with the system.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: A stodgy, clunky map, with a horrendously flawed piece of wayfinding in its supposedly “clarifying” detail inset. Needs a rethink. One-and-a-half stars.

Un168澳洲十开奖网: Miami-Dade Metrorail and Metromover by Peter Dovak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/miami-metrorail-dovak/ https://transitmap.net/miami-metrorail-dovak/#respond Sat, 15 Oct 2016 22:05:25 +0000 https://transitmap.net/miami-metrorail-dovak/ I love it 🔸澳洲开奖 people take my criticism of a map and use it as inspiration to come up with an alternative solution. Having seen my recent review of the new 168澳洲十开奖网 (October 2016, 1.5 stars), Peter took it upon himself to redesign it – and quickly, taking less than a day to come up with his version.

Peter obviously agreed with a lot of my concerns about the 168澳洲十开奖网, because he’s addressed pretty much all of them here: simplified coastline and route trajectories, an inset for the downtown Metromover, the placement of the Downtown Express “e” logo within the relevant station’s dot, and so on… it’s like he’s reading my mind! The overall effect is much improved: the map is very clear and easy to read, although the excision of bus route information means that a direct comparison between the two maps is difficult. (One could argue that the inclusion of a long list of bus numbers without any further information isn’t actually that useful, but I digress…)

There are a couple of minor things that could looked at to improve the map further. The maps’s legend is strangely split into two parts, one off to the left and one hiding underneath the Metromover inset: I think these could be combined into one unified box. There’s certainly plenty of space over to the left for it.

The little blue squiggle representing the Metromover on the main map is very nicely done, but the top part of it gets a little close to the “Culmer” label, which could lead some people to think that there’s some sort of Metrorail/Metromover connection there.

I’d move the “Brownsville” station up a little bit to balance the spacing of the labels a little better along that section. The “Tri-Rail” station name is a little cheaty, as the Metrorail station is named “Tri-Rail”, while the Tri-Rail station is called “Metrorail Transfer”, each indicating a connection to the other service at the respective stations. The 168澳洲十开奖网 doesn’t do such a good job of making this clear either, so I can understand any confusion on Peter’s behalf. Finally, I’m not really ever in fav🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划of all-caps labels on 澳洲10开官网开奖 (mixed case is easier to read and just looks better, I feel), although i know that Peter was just emulating the real map’s typography to show how it could work better.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: That’s better! Clean, modern, easy to read – everything the 168澳洲十开奖网 should be, and made in less than 24 hours! Three-and-a-half stars!

I think I’m gonna hurl… Shows buses, but NOT the Metromover? Come on.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Well, it at least shows the stations that you can transfer to the Metromover at (all two of them), so it’s kind of on par with the buses – no actual bus routes are shown, just a list of numbers at each station. Showing the Metromover on this map is problematic because of the disparate scales of the two systems: Metrorail has 23 stations along 24 miles of track, while the Metromover crams 21 stations into just 4.4 miles of track looping through downtown. Tricky to reconcile those, to say the least. If the map was better organised, a downtown inset could be the answer.

Like its predecessor (August 2012, 1 star), this map suffers from including an unnecessarily detailed base map: do we really need to see every marina, inlet, island, lake and river in the greater Miami area? The drab grey isn’t giving me any Florida vibes, either. The typeface used for labelling is an improvement (Interstate versus the previous Arial), but there’s a sense that everything has just been thrown on where it can fit. Redundant station/locality names don’t help this either: two “Brickell” labels right next to each other? The station names already reflect the locality (or at least they should), so I don’t see a need to double up. Some labels end up under a legend box or even under the route lines, which isn’t very helpful.

The haphazard placement of labels means that some information takes too long to find. A stylised “e” symbol denotes a station that’s served by Downtown Express trains, but that “e” is often placed far away from the station it’s meant to tied to. Why not just put the “e” symbol on the station dot? Or put a small black dot in the centre of the station dot? Information like this should always be placed consistently so that it’s easy to find.

I will say that the depiction of the airport transportation options is much better: the MIA station is really a proper transit hub now (even more so 🔸澳洲开奖 Amtrak trains start calling there in the near future), so it’s good to see it getting some love.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: An ever-so-slight improvement on the previous iteration, so a begrudged one-and-a-half stars.

For those who haven’t heard, the Washington DC Metrorail will shut down entirely tomorrow for emergency inspection on its wiring after a previous fire. On a weekday, with less than a day’s advance warning.

This is the Cape Town Metrorail map as posted in the Cape Town railway station. It’s a pretty straight forward map with the lines radiating out to the east of the CBD, though it has some complexity with lines of the same col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划operating multiple courses to the same terminal: for example, the green and blue lines. Thoughts?

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Despite the “Metrorail” moniker, this system is really commuter rail, and not a rapid transit system. The Metrorail agency operates services like this throughout South Africa, so this map follows a similar design language to the other regions. I’ve previously covered the map for the Gauteng Metrorail system (September 2013, 1.5 stars).

Because of the similar design philosophy, this map has a lot of the same flaws as the Gauteng map: type angled in too many directions, discordant colours, etc. The use of a cyan-edged station symbol to indicate rail interchanges is particularly boneheaded 🔸澳洲开奖 one of the Central Line is also indicated in cyan: almost every station on that line inadvertently looks like a major interchange, even 🔸澳洲开奖 no other lines are present.

As Edward points out, the green Northern Line and cyan Central Line do operate along multiple branches, which can be a little hard to decipher on the map. From what I can work out, the Northern Line can operate to Bellville along either of the two green lines from Cape Town, then split to one of three final destinations. The lack of a joining curve at the T-junction between Eerste River and Lynedoch makes it hard to work out how that intersection operates… some trains go from Cape Town down to Strand, while others turn to go through Stellenbosch to Wellington. All I can hope is that regular commuters know these service patterns, because the map isn’t helping a lot.

The inclusion of starred places of interest is welcome, but the implementation at Cape Town station is very odd. Whereas most of the star icons are just placed near a station to indicate that the point of interest is nearby, the stars near Cape Town station – for the Castle of Good Hope and Greenpoint Stadium – have been placed in seemingly geographical locations. The stadium is in a pretty decent location, although it’s difficult to tell exactly how far away it is on a diagrammatic map like this. However, the castle is in a completely incorrect location, shown halfway between the station and the stadium. It actually nestles almost alongside the station along its southern edge, as this Google Maps location shows.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Very similar to the Gauteng Metrorail map, sharing a lot of its faults. Overall, ever so slightly better executed but still not great. Two stars.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸Houston METRORail Future System Plan🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/future-houston/ https://transitmap.net/future-houston/#respond Wed, 15 Jul 2015 14:00:26 +0000 https://transitmap.net/future-houston/ Submitted by Caden, who just enigmatically comments, “Houston: sigh”

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Caden’s sigh took me a little while to interpret (is he in love?), but I’m going to take a guess that he’s actually referencing some grand rapid transit plans – in a very car-centric city – that are now beginning to fade away. While the Red, (Green) East End and (Purple) Southeast lines are now operational, funding for the Blue University Line has completely dried up and the Gold Uptown Line looks like it’ll be reinvented as a (much cheaper) Bus Rapid Transit line instead of light rail.

At least this map of those plans is quite lovely, with confident, bold 30/60-degree angles and a nice usage of everyone’s favourite sans serif typeface, Gotham. The col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划palette is also excellent, and the secondary highway grid is nicely understated. Black station labels neatly indicate an open (or just about to open) station, while grey type indicates a station still in planning. However, some of the angled station labels are a bit unfortunate, especially on the section of the University Line between Almeda and Tsu stations, where they’re angled in the same direction as the route line itself.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Really quite nice, although we’ll just have to wait and see if the reality ever matches the dream. Sigh. 3 stars.
