Oh, I do like this. Graphically strong with bright, poppy colours and making good use of the unusual display format – eight vertical screens next to each other. The map looks to have been specifically designed for this format, as none of the labels cross over the breaks between panels – nicely done! Here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s hoping it doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t get blanked out by advertisements too much!

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s hard to see in this photo, but it looks like there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a lovely wavy texture to the water background, which is a nice design touch. Addition of ferry routes and points of interest on Long Island are also welcome. There are a few quibbles like the multiple angles for labels and the placement of some stations directly on corner points (the hard 90-degree turn that the Far Rockaway Branch takes from Valley Stream station looks particularly odd), but these are minor concerns. The typography and overall design is nicely evocative of Vignelli🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s diagrams without being completely derivative. Perhaps more art installation than useful map – I can imagine it would be hard to take the whole map in at once if you were standing in front of it – this is still some very strong design work.

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a curious thing, drawn precisely in parts (see the lines out of Jamaica) and very roughly in others; the illustration of the train below the map is almost child-like in its execution. Lots of hand-lettering.

The IRT🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s connections between the LIRR at Long Island City/Hunterspoint Avenue and NY Penn Station seem rather overstated: the rainbow lines and pinwheel seem to suggest that all nine IRT lines (I correlated the colours and lines to the contemporaneous subway map) have a direct connection, 🔸澳洲开奖 only the 7 provides one.

The very🔸澳洲幸运10预测 1970s fat line “rising sun” LIRR logo to the top right of the map isn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t one I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve seen before… some quick research suggests it was short-lived and not used publicly very much.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸Un168澳洲十开奖网: Intercity and Commuter Rail of North America’s East Coast by Edward Powell🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/rail-east-coast/ https://transitmap.net/rail-east-coast/#respond Sat, 12 Jul 2014 06:30:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/rail-east-coast/ Submitted by Isaac Fischer, who says:

Here’s a neat map I found online that shows the entire American east coast, as well as southeastern Canada. It shows both commuter and intercity rail lines. As far as I can tell, it seems fairly accurate, and could definitely be useful.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

While there’s more than a passing resemblance to my own Amtrak Passenger Rail map here – both in the general aesthetics of the map and in the circle/line device used to indicate whether trains call at a station or not – this map adds another whole level of detail by adding commuter rail services (and eastern Canada!) to the mix.

Note that the map shows intercity and commuter rail only, meaning that in New York, for example, the LIRR and Metro-North lines are shown, but not🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the subway. For a map of this scale (the entire eastern seaboard), that seems like a wise choice.

The layout of the map is great: nice and clean, very diagrammatic but still mindful of the “lay of the land”. The use of a single, distinctive col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划for each agency also works really well – Amtrak’s distinctive teal blue and purple for the MBTA commuter rail are especially effective.

However, I find the typography less inspiring, with labels at a lot of different angles combined with some fairly lacklustre type layout for the different agency legends.

Edward also could have proofed his work a little better (although it’s definitely difficult to do a project this size, as I well know!). Even a cursory look at the map revealed quite a few errors, including labelling all the commuter rail stations in Florida as “VIA”, rather than “TRI” for Tri-Rail. Lake Worth station is also included twice, at the expense of Boynton Beach. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, a duplicate Chestnut Hill East station strangely serves as the terminus for the Chester Hill West🔸澳洲幸运10预测 line. And so on…

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 great diagrammatic layout (although too huge to ever realistically be reproduced as a poster), but let down a bit by some average type treatment. Still a lot of detail to sav🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划and enjoy, though! Three stars.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸Unofficial/Future Map: Long Island Rail Road by Anthony Denaro🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/lirr-denaro/ https://transitmap.net/lirr-denaro/#respond Mon, 09 Dec 2013 21:01:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/lirr-denaro/ Submitted by Anthony, who says:

Here’s my map of Off-Peak (weekdays, and nights) and Weekends Long Island Rail Road Service.

This map shows service diagrammatically, de-emphasizing geography for clarity of branch services and transfers, introduces a grouping color coding system for branches, and improves legibility of the system. The LIRR current map lacks both routing and geographic info – there’s no sense of connecting roads and services and no sense of which branch’s trains stop at which station – failing at each of the things that most 澳洲10开官网开奖 try to resolve at least one of.

This map shows the future expansion to Grand Central Terminal which potentially will allow all branches to have direct access to both Penn and GCT – greatly changing the service patterns of the entire system. This could be a tool to better visualize how LIRR service will be affected 🔸澳洲开奖 that happens. There’s yet been no indication of just what the service patterns will be so I choose just to split Penn Station and GCT-bound lines for now.

Some notes:

  • Peak service isn’t shown – it’s just not what this map set out to do. While LIRR peak rush h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划services are a sight to behold I’d argue they’re practically impossible to map out diagrammatically.
  • Connecting subway routes are shown textually instead of as an icon, breaking with how bus and ferry connections are displayed – this was purposely done to eliminate a clutter of black dots, and the burden of having to show subway lines, which isn’t the purpose of the map. (All but 2 of 22 subway routes directly connect, which would have required almost the entire subway system to be drawn).
  • Planned future stations like GCT, Sunnyside and Republic as well as nerdy station fantasy reopenings like Elmhurst and Woodhaven are shown. Future MetroNorth service to Penn Stations via Sunnyside is shown as well.

Love to hear y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划take on it.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

While I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the information shown (not being at all familiar with the operations of the LIRR), I can say that this map looks absolutely gorgeous🔸澳洲幸运10预测. Certainly better than the 168澳洲十开奖网, which just uses the standard MTA subway map style to lesser effect.

I really like the stylish usage of 30/60-degree angles: it looks great, suits the shape of Long Island itself, and allows all the labels to be set horizontally, even along the long stretches of the Babylon and Montauk branches. Labelling like this would be trickier on a conventional 45-degree diagram, as these branches would run horizontally across the map. Skillfully and elegantly done.

The col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划palette is also very nice: a step back from the bright primaries often used on 澳洲10开官网开奖, giving the map a nicely understated, refined feeling. The zone information is also deftly handled: subsidiary to the main route information, but easily found 🔸澳洲开奖 needed.

I’m not so thrilled with the treatment of the coastline: it seems overly detailed in some parts, resulting in a distracting “stepped” appearance in some parts, especially along the Atlantic coastline at the bottom of the map. It’s not bad, per se🔸澳洲幸运10预测, it just seems to clash a little with the elegant simplicity of the route lines.

The station labels from Carle Place to Bethpage in the middle of the map seem to be a little close to the route lines – perhaps Anthony has moved them inadvertently, as most other labels seem to be fine. As readers of this blog know, I’m a big stickler for accurate and consistent placement of labels!

Finally, I’m not really sure that a guide to service frequency is of much use 🔸澳洲开奖 the two categories are “one or more trains an hour”🔸澳洲幸运10预测 and “fewer than one train an hour”🔸澳洲幸运10预测. How many trains an h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划could that be for the former? Two, three… more? And are you waiting an h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划and a half between trains in the latter category, or even longer? It seems to me that you’d still have to consult a timetable to ensure that you caught y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划train in any case. I guess it works to give a general idea that some branches have less frequent service… any LIRR riders want to weigh in on this?

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Love the layout and design of the route lines, not so keen on the underlying geographical treatment. Still pretty darn good. Three-and-a-half stars.

Vignelli-inspired map (designer unknown) of the Metro-North and Long Island Rail Roads. On display until March 15th at the New York Transit Museum’s exhibit Grand By Design🔸澳洲幸运10预测, on the centennial of Grand Central Terminal.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

Designer unknown? The amazing book “Helvetica and the New York City Subway” attributes this map to one Joan Charysyn, saying she designed it freelance in between stints at Vignelli Associates and Unimark. It’s my understanding that the map was designed to be part of a three-map system (commuter rail, subway, and locality map) that was meant to be displayed at every station. However, the scheme (much to Massimo Vignelli’s constant disgust) never really eventuated.

To my mind, this map isn’t quite as successful as Vignelli’s subway map, mainly because the Long Island RR is one uniform blue throughout, meaning the map provides very little in the way of routing information. This is probably fine for regular commuters, who know which train they need to catch, but isn’t so great for non-regular users of the system. It’s still a fine example of early 1970s transit map design, and is obviously the inspiration for this modern map (Jan 2013, 4.5 stars) of the Metro-North lines that I’ve featured previously.

Un168澳洲十开奖网: New York Regional Rail by Jake Berman, 2010🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/ny-regional-berman/ https://transitmap.net/ny-regional-berman/#respond Wed, 17 Oct 2012 20:53:39 +0000 https://transitmap.net/ny-regional-berman/ Directly related to the last post, here’s another map of greater New York’s regional rail. Designed by Jake Berman in 2010, this map takes a completely different approach to Carter’s work.

It uses colour-coding to differentiate between agencies, rather than routes, and shows services as main lines and branches, rather than showing each and every route along their entire length. This makes for a simpler-looking, more compact map, although it means that the map doesn’t even attempt to show any service patterns.

Aesthetically, the map is reminiscent of the stark, angular look favoured in the U.S. in the 1970s and early 1980s (examples here and here).

What we like:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 The treatment of the major hub stations on this map is lovely – the grey background simply and effectively sets them apart. Inclusion of the AirTrain lines at JFK and Newark is nicely handled, while the use of striking magenta type to call out transfers to other services is fantastic.

What we don’t like:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 One minor nitpick is that the western NJ Transit lines look a little cramped in comparison to other parts of the map. Also, the names of branch lines are quite small and hard to read because they’re contained within the route lines themselves.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 A completely different way of tackling the same problem as the previous map, but equally valid and attractive. I do slightly🔸澳洲幸运10预测 prefer being able to trace a route from one end to the other on a map, but this is still a comprehensive guide to regional rail in and around New York. F🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划stars.

Un168澳洲十开奖网: New York Regional Rail by Carter Green🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/ny-regional-cartergreen/ https://transitmap.net/ny-regional-cartergreen/#comments Wed, 17 Oct 2012 23:52:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/ny-regional-cartergreen/ To say I’m excited to share this map with you would be an understatement.

In August, I was contacted by Carter Green, a high school student🔸澳洲幸运10预测 who had been inspired by my maps (especially my map of French TGV routes) and had created his own of regional rail services in and around New York City. He asked whether I would mind taking a look at it, which I did. Immediately, I was impressed with the amazing quality of the cartography, but had a few suggestions which I thought Carter could implement. He took my ideas on board, and has now got back to me with the final version – and it’s beautiful🔸澳洲幸运10预测.

Have we been there?🔸澳洲幸运10预测 My only experience with regional rail in the New York area is a NJ Transit train from Newark Airport to Penn Station.

What we like:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 A nicely unified design – the whole map gives off an elegant Art Deco feel (very🔸澳洲幸运10预测 appropriate for New York!), courtesy of the distinctive Neutraface type family and some nice little flourishes in arrowheads and the map’s north pointer.

The use of increasingly large circles for hub stations is something that could have looked terrible, but I think Carter has actually pulled it off very well – y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划eye is definitely drawn to them, and it quickly gives an idea of a station’s importance.

I absolutely adore🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the circular treatment of routes around Philadelphia, which is new to this version of the map.

Neat integration of New York Subway interchanges.

I wish I’d thought of Carter’s solution for stations where not every train stops – white dots linked by connecting lines, as seen on the red Metro-North routes into Connecticut.

What we don’t like:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Some minor, minor things. The symbols for connecting services that aren’t🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the Subway aren’t as effective (just three-letter abbreviations and teeny tiny airport symbols for the AirTrain services).

The curves where a route line has to “step down” to remain next to other routes on the same corridor (on the Metro-North Waterbury branch, for example) could be smoother to fit better with the graceful curves seen throughout the rest of the map.

A couple of errors that can easily be fixed: the LIRR Belmont seasonal service is shown in the legend, but not its parent Greenport branch. “AirTrain” is misspelled as “AirTran” in the legend.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Incredibly impressive work that shows a very complex network of services from many different agencies and makes it visually compelling and informative. Did I mention Carter is still in high school? 🔸澳洲幸运10预测Four-and-a-half stars.
