I’ve been a fan of y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划work for a while now, and thought I’d submit my own work for judgement.

I’ve had a crack at designing a map for an as-yet non-existent tram and bus network for Bristol, UK, a city in dire need of reliable, integrated public transport. It would operate as a network of 19 tram lines in and around the urban area of Bristol, with five ‘metrobus’ routes linking the city to nearby commuter towns. Whilst there’s still a huge struggle between residents of the city, campaign groups and the city’s councils, I tried to envisage what a network could one day look like.

I had a few problems in terms of design, particularly trying to distinguish the separate bus routes apart from the rest of the tram network. The city centre orbital route also operates as part of each branch line, with trains running clockwise before branching out into the suburbs, and needed to find a way of denoting this (eventually with arrows and graduated lines).

I’d look forward to hearing y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划thoughts!

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

Thanks for y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划submission, Elliott! I like both the way this diagram looks and y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划boundless ambition 🔸澳洲开奖 it comes to envisioning a future for transit in Bristol! While normally I steer clear of commenting on the feasibility of networks depicted in 🔸澳洲幸运10在线人工计划网s, I will just say that running the trams from 19 feeder lines around a one-way downtown loop sounds a little… problematic🔸澳洲幸运10预测.

That aside, the diagram is certainly striking, with its central focal point and use of only 90-degree angles. The liberal use of locality names throughout the map mitigates the lack of geographical cues, though it might still be hard work for non-locals to relate this diagram to the real world. The choice to show that central loop as a solid black with all the other lines fading into it is probably a wise one, though it might be a good idea to not use black (or any really dark colours) for any of the other lines – note how Lines 4 and 12 take on more prominence because that fading effect is not present: it almost looks like there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s one through-running route between the two termini.

A few thoughts – I think y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划station labelling is a little small. A good starting point is to make the x-height of y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划labels the same height as the thickness of y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划route lines and see how that looks/adjust from there. The typeface used, while clean and distinctive has a few quirks that hamper legibility: the ampersand (&) looks way too much like a lower-case “e” for my liking, and Oldstyle numerals – where some characters are smaller than others or drop below the baseline – are something I find just a bit too idiosyncratic for good transit map design. If y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划typeface is an Opentype font, you may be able to change the numerals from “Oldstyle” to “Lining”, where all the glyphs are of equal height and always sit uniformly on the baseline.

I have to say that I found it hard work to differentiate between the tram and bus routes at 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划glance: while the bus routes are🔸澳洲幸运10预测 thinner than the tram routes, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not enough to be able to quickly tell them apart. Some things to consider might be an obviously different line style or distinctive col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划for the bus lines, and maybe changing the shape of the bullets to a square instead of a circle for that instant visual difference.

Another thing I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d like to see is y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划line numbering doing more work to help make sense of the system. At the moment, it all seems a little random. You could maybe number the routes sequentially in order clockwise around the map, starting from the 12-o🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页clock position and paying close attention to the ending position of any branching lines to keep them in the correct sequential order – the outer terminus of 🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸1a should appear before🔸澳洲幸运10预测 🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸1b, for example: it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s the other way around on the diagram at present. Alternatively, you could perhaps bundle routes from each “exit point” of the downtown loop with related numbers… maybe “🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸T1″ through “🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸T5″ for all the routes that exit via 🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸Temple Meads, for example. Either of these approaches would also have the advantage of bundling all the routes together properly in the legend. Using the above example, all the Temple Meads services would run neatly after each other instead of being spread randomly throughout the legend as they currently are. Routes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8; or routes T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 both make a lot more sense than routes 4, 7, 8, 17 and 18! Help y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划users find the information they need!

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测A really well-drawn diagram of this expansive fantasy network: it just needs a little more attention to detail to really make it work for me. A great start!

Un168澳洲十开奖网s: Two new takes on the London Underground by Kenneth Field🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/underground-overground-kenneth-field-2022/ https://transitmap.net/underground-overground-kenneth-field-2022/#comments Thu, 12 Jan 2023 19:45:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=20216 Back in 2019, Ken showcased an experimental alternative Tube Map based on a diamond motif (read the 澳洲10开官网开奖 review here) that had mixed reactions from the community. He went away and absorbed that feedback, and – like a glutton for punishment – he🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s back with not one, but two🔸澳洲幸运10预测 new maps. Like many people, Ken believes the current Tube Map is nearly at the end of its useful life and wants to explore new concepts and idioms to map the sprawling system now and into the future.

The 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划map (above) is a nicely reworked version of that 2019 attempt, and addresses a lot of the issues that I had with it at the time. The removal of most of the diamond shapes makes for a less contrived design; type is larger throughout; design elements are applied more consistently; and the addition of Thameslink services to the map really helps with the overall balance of the design – filling in a lot of the empty space south of the Thames. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not perfect, but this is a pretty solid attempt 🔸澳洲开奖 working within the confines of the way that the rail network is currently defined – the line names, colours and modes (e.g., Tube lines all get individual colours, but all of the Overground is relegated to the same orange).

However, the second map is where Ken throws everything out and starts completely anew, and this is where things get interesting🔸澳洲幸运10预测.

On this map, all the traditional Tube Map nomenclature (Piccadilly, Bakerloo, etc.) has been reduced in importance and the many and varied route colours have been consolidated to instead represent different travel modes – deep Tube (blue), sub-surface Tube (green), Overground (salmon), Crossrail (purple representing both the Elizabeth Line and Thameslink), elevated rail (retaining the DLR🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s teal), and tram (a dull olive). One could argue that differentiating between deep and sub-surface Tube lines as separate modes is splitting hairs, but the extra col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划does help give some definition and form to the map, so I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ll allow it. Ken says that the chosen colours work well for colour-blind users, but I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d still like to see a little tweaking of them to make for a brighter, more visually appealing palette.

Alongside this new approach, Ken🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s worked hard to encode service pattern information into the map, using a detailed legend and colour-coded terminus markers. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a startlingly comprehensive approach, and very much at odds with the current Tube Map, which makes absolutely no attempt to show service patterns. The terminus markers are perhaps a bit small for my liking, and I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m not sure that Johnston Sans works that well reversed out of a coloured background at those small sizes. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d look for a complementary, less idiosyncratic sans serif that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a little 🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸bolder for this information… a new approach is allowed to use a new typeface 🔸澳洲开奖 it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s needed! The legend itself could also use a bit of work to make it more readable and consistent… the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划column has sub-entries indented, but columns two and three don🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t, for example. Good information design principles should also apply to a map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s supporting information! Speaking of which, you may have noticed that Ken🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s maps dispense with zone and accessibility information altogether. As he has noted, this information is all listed in the station index on the back of the printed journey planner, so does it need to be duplicated on the map itself?

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ll note here that one thing I do love about Ken🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s maps is his sense of humour… Pink Floyd🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s “flying pig” is floating above Battersea Power Station, and there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a new “Wombling Free” station on the District Line between Southfields and Wimbledon Park – completing the full title for the map, “Underground, Overground, Wombling Free“. Presumably the station serves nearby Wimbledon Common?

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测Most transit map designers are content with one attempt at reworking the Tube Map, but Ken🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s come back for seconds and 🔸澳洲幸运10预测thirds like some kind of map-making Hobbit. Most other designers are also content to remain within the existing fabric of the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s design language, but Ken🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not afraid to throw it all out and start from scratch, and for that he has to be commended. It may not be everyone🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s cup of tea, but at least it can start a discussion about possible alternatives to the current 168澳洲十开奖网.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸Un168澳洲十开奖网: Integrated Rail Map of Wales with Bus Connections by James Jackson, 2022🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/wales-james-jackson-2022/ https://transitmap.net/wales-james-jackson-2022/#respond Tue, 21 Jun 2022 20:20:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=19794 Submitted by James, who says:

Hello there! The last time you reviewed a map of mine was in 2015 [See review here – Cam]. Since then I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve moved houses, had several new jobs, and been through a pandemic. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve recently been reworking a map of the Welsh rail network, based on a 2:1 triangular grid, using Affinity Designer which has continued to improve.

You will see there are some clear design factors in the diagram. A large improvement from my last design is the ability to adopt a balance between map and diagram. There🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a North-South line between Manchester/Liverpool and Newport, and I finally managed to get the Valley Lines evenly spaced and visually balanced, including space for planned stations. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve included the Oswestry and Amlwch proposals.

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m pleased that the South Wales Mainline gives a strong, smooth base to the diagram, and likewise the North Wales Coast line gives a clear Northern boundary hugging the coast. The Cambrian and Heart of Wales lines provide a nice balance in the centre – almost like the ‘scales🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 in 90🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s versions of the Lyon metro.

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve finally managed to incorporate large parts of the TrawsCymru bus network where it augments (rather than competes with) the railway. This means the rural heart of Wales doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t look as empty as it otherwise would, and there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s also some Western ‘closure🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 to the map. Despite that, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s clear that there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s less public transport in the West and North, which reflects reality. F🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划connecting steam railways are also included.

The map is bilingual, except for where there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a single spelling of a location or – and this is my preference – the Welsh is so similar to the English that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve simply opted for the Welsh alone. (Merthyr Tydful being an example.)

Like every such diagram, there are trade-offs. This isn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t perfect and there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a number of things I can🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t quite fix:

  1. The ruling size of the station labels the impossibly long Eneu🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页r-glyn a Pharc Churchill Energyln & Churchill Park. That gave a 6pt type size which is … on the small end. I could not come up with a way to make this bigger without making the Rhymni line quite a mess, or implausibly broadening the whole of the Valley Lines.
  2. Grangetown and the future Loundon Square are close to their station dots, but not close enough for my liking.
  3. Heath High Level and Low Level is a constant problem 🔸澳洲开奖 it comes to managing two stations with long names in two languages whose platforms are only 70 metres apart. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve given it a go as best I can
  4. Bilingual station names can vary immensely in size, and I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve opted to evenly space the text up a route line and move the station dots to match, rather than keep the dots an equal distance but mash the text up. This is most obvious on the Merthyr, Rhymni and Ebbw Vale lines.
  5. Finally the ‘kink🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 of the Marches line approaching Newport is a pity, but avoids confusion with the SWML and reflects a number of twists the passenger goes through to get into the station.

Other than this I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m pleased with the graphic balance, the legibility, and the room for future plans to be incorporated without changing the diagram. But I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d be very interested in y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划own thoughts!

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

🔸澳洲开奖 I reviewed James🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 previous diagram back in 2015, I noted that it was unfortunate that it didn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t really look anything like Wales, being squished into a landscape A3 format. This new version definitely solves that problem by employing a 2:1 grid (which gives angles of 26.57° instead of the commonly-employed “isometric angle” of 30°), allowing for an excellent approximation of Wales🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 shape. Note how James only uses vertical lines and 26.57° lines (no horizontal or steeper 63.43° lines), which makes the diagram very compositionally strong.

Within that shape, all the lines are arranged in a very visually pleasing way – I particularly like the way all of the Metro lines fan out evenly from Cardiff. Nothing feels too cramped, which is quite an achievement given the use of bilingual labels. I think that spacing station labels evenly instead of their dots was definitely the right choice in this instance, so well done to James for using this solution.

Inclusion of connecting bus services is most welcome and fleshes out the network nicely, and showing the heritage steam railways as well is just the icing on the cake. I think the only thing I really miss is an indication of ferry connections at Holyhead, Fishguard and Milford Haven, just to complete the transportation picture.

The legend does seem to be missing an indication that coloured station labels indicated planned Metro stations, but that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s easily fixed.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测A massive improvement from James🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 previous effort (which wasn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t bad🔸澳洲幸运10预测 by any stretch of the imagination) – this is confident, bright and really well executed. Great work, and definitely better than the stodgy and old-fashioned official Transport for Wales effort (PDF link).

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m sure you would find it interesting, as you have attempted to do the inverse of what Sean is doing.

澳洲10开官网开奖 🔸澳洲幸运10预测says:

This map is indeed the exact inverse of my project from 2019 to show the New York Subway in the style of the London Underground diagram, and arguably more successful as it actually works as intended (mine looks great, but is ultimately flawed as it cannot show service patterns).

🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划things 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划– Sean has absolutely nailed🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the New York Subway map style, and perhaps even improved upon it in places – I note with pleasure that all of his station labels are set horizontally, instead of the many varied angles used on the official NYC map.

There🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s great attention to detail as well – all of the Tube route line colours have been swapped out with their closest MTA equivalents, meaning the 🔸澳洲10开奖网址 Line has the 7🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s purple instead of its traditional burgundy (strangely officially called “Corporate Magenta”). Similarly, all the deep tube lines get letters for route designations, while the shallower cut-and-cover lines get numbers – which emulates the letter/number distinction between the old divisions of the New York Subway.

A couple of minor things: I like to change the background col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划in insets just a little bit to help differentiate them from the main map: just a little lighter or darker can work wonders. Also, I see that Sean is selling prints of this map… so he might want to reconsider that Underground Roundel in the bottom right, as TfL are known to come down hard on any unauthorised use of it.

AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 final thing to note is that this map (as awesome as it is) really emphasises just how amazingly compact and space-efficient the Tube Diagram is – it fits legibly onto tiny Journey Planners, while this map seems to need at least an 11″ x 17″ canvas to work.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测One of the best style mash-ups I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve seen: technically excellent, well-researched and actually really informative. Wonderful!

Attached is my re-draw of the Southern Electric Map, dated 1934, showing the electrified services (using 3rd rail top-contact 750v DC) serving South London. These were displayed in frames inside carriages, normally printed on heavy-grade card.

The temptation to correct some of the ‘issues🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 of the original (the station names appearing over lines, odd spacing of lettering that doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t appear to be consistent and some rather interesting angles for the station names) was real, but I went with originality…

I believe this was one of the last designs to show the geographical nature of the network, before the tube-inspired topological maps took hold.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

I managed to track down an image of the original map that Paul has so lovingly recreated and it looks like he🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s done a really fantastic job of it. I definitely agree with Paul🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s view on alterations to these old maps 🔸澳洲开奖 digitally recreating them. Generally, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ll only ever fix egregious spelling mistakes and leave the rest pretty much as it was on the original. Starting the New Year off right with this lovely illustrated map of coach services from London through the Thames Valley to destinations like Oxford, Reading and Worcester. Designed by illustrator Derrick Sayer, the simplified route diagram is presented on the back of a beautiful swan, acting as a symbol of the Thames. Another contemporaneous poster by the same illustrator uses a jumping fish as the backdrop to the diagram, to slightly less visual effect.

At the time, South Midland Motor Services were an operating division of the Thames Valley Traction Co., explaining why routes of both companies are shown on the map. Service to Oxford ran about once an hour, alternating between the Henley and High Wycombe routes.

A map from the Beamish Museum showing the Newcastle upon Tyne tram, trolleybus and bus network in 1949. The trams and trolleys are long gone, but the bus network is still recognisable. I used to take the number 1 through that janky Heaton route in the 2000s.

The choice of sections for the map lookup references seems very of its time too.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

A rather splendid map, with every element hand-drawn – including two charming illustrations of double-decker vehicles in the top corners. Interestingly, the main map seems to be presented at a slightly oblique angle almost as if the view was from an aeroplane high above the city. Distances along the north-south axis are somewhat compressed, and everything leans to the left a little. The bridges over the River Tyne are drawn in a way that reinforces this perspective, so the effect is quite convincing.

If you look closely at this copy of the map, you can see that someone has meticulously written in the locations of all the car barns in blue ink – I wonder who owned this map in the past?

And yes, it always amazes me how modern bus routes continue to travel over the exact same route their predecessors did so long ago!

Perhaps because of post-war austerity measures, this map was printed with just two inks – green and black – but still manages to do a lot of really good work.

The radial nature of the Green Line network definitely makes things easier for the designer, as only a few of the routes really interact with others as they spread inexorably outwards from the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s centre. The large route numbers at each terminus are great, as is the eye-catching reversed white rectangle indicating central London which also refers readers to a more detailed map on the other side of the sheet. Labelling is in the almost-ubiquitous Gill Sans, which for me always seems to work a bit better as all-caps, such as at the terminus stations.

I came across this lovely piece this morning on Twitter, so here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a review. This is Andy🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s second stab at Edinburgh (see also this map showing an “idealised” 1940s network), and I think it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s clear to see that Andy has come along in leaps and bounds as a map designer since then.

AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 thing I always appreciate about Andy🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s maps is how tactile they seem: they really do look like old printed maps and that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s rather lovely. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not just the added “folded paper” texture, but also his col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划and design choices that all add up to make his pieces seem so convincingly real. This map has already fooled a few people on Twitter into thinking it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a real 1920s relic, which is a testament to his work!

Design-wise, I love🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the rings of route numbers at major stops – an effective device that Andy has borrowed from a real 1924 Edinburgh tram map, but also made very much his own. Overall, the layout is nicely handled and Andy🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s even made all-caps labels work well, especially considering the amount of information displayed on the map – trams, buses, main line railways, etc. And it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not just these lines as they appeared in 1924, either: Andy🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s turned this map into a full historical document and also added lines that opened after🔸澳洲幸运10预测 1924 (in a nicely-recessive yellow), and lines that were planned but never actually constructed. It does require a fair bit of consulting the legend to work out exactly what some of the lines mean, as different colours and line types combine to show information, but it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s all worthwhile in the end, I think.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测Stylish and very convincing, this is a great little historical diagram that documents a period in history 🔸澳洲开奖 tramways dominated Edinburgh🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s transportation. Great work, Andy!
