Now🔸澳州幸运彩开奖结果 this🔸澳洲幸运10预测 is a map! This is just superb cartography: detailed, clear and lovely to look at. I love the way that brown is used for mountainous features, and a light blue is used for water features – it allows this information to be visible, but it doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t compete with the overlaid railroad lines. The map is packed with other information as well – note the three rail gauges in use in Argentina at the time.

AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 thing I do find a bit disturbing is the way that past librarians recorded information about the map – physical dimensions, scale calculations, library collection numbers, etc. – in pencil on the map itself🔸澳洲幸运10预测. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s okay if it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a discreet annotation in the margin, but this map has more than the norm.

I thought you might enjoy poring over a transit+points of interest map I recently drew of Center City Philadelphia.

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve collected bird🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s eye urban panoramas since I was a child, and I particularly enjoy panoramas that have placemaking and wayfinding value, such as those drawn by Jenni Sparks and other artists.

I also find there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s no better way to learn and demystify seemingly-complex bus service than drawing it a couple times over. Taking the lead from SEPTA🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s own frequency map, here I attempted to demystify bus service for visitors by employing SEPTA🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s new color-coded frequency classification, and by winnowing a selection of bus routes that permit the easiest gridlike travel across Center City so visitors aren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t forced to rely only on the spartan axes of the MFL and BSL.

The map was also fueled by a longing and impatience for the points of interest to reopen so that all the attractions of Center City (and other cities) can once again be enjoyed after COVID. Here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s to a better 2021 and 2022 and to the hopeful revival of the urban flaneur!

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a sign of just how much I love this that I asked Marc whether I could share it in my new zoomable map format, just so you can all get in super close and see the wonderful detail in this map. I just adore🔸澳洲幸运10预测 the stylised, textured base map – an aerial image run through some artistic Photoshop filters that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s then been cleaned up manually and tinted to highlight points of interest and parkland, which sounds like a lot of painstaking, time consuming work. The end result is worth it, though – the city looks🔸澳洲幸运10预测 like a city, with recognisable buildings and landmarks. I particularly like the way that taller buildings obscure transit lines on streets that are further away from 🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划viewpoint – it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s this that really sells the dimensionality of the map, like we were in a hot air balloon tethered high above the streets below. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s very definitely evocative of those old birds-eye view maps that Marc mentions with such fondness.

Marc🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s other influence, Jenni Sparks, can certainly be seen in the juxtaposition of a detailed base map and bright, thick transit route lines, though Marc🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s map is less chaotic than Jenni🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s more organic illustrative pieces. Despite the busy background, all the transit lines stand out well and are easy to see and follow. I particularly like the way that Marc has added texture to the route lines so that they look like they belong to the rest of the map instead of just being plopped on top of it. If all this work wasn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t enough, Marc has also added some 245 points of interest to the map, making it an invaluable tool for visitors to the city. And really, that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s what this map should be for – printed and available for tourists in every bookstore and information bureau in the city: it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s just that good.

If I had one tiny complaint, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m personally not that fond of the playful, child-like typeface used for the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s title at the top left – but that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a pretty minor quibble on the whole of things. Wonderful work, Marc!

For those who are interested, Marc has made PDFs of the map that are available to download for personal, non-commercial use only.

168澳洲十开奖网: Amtrak Network Map by James Niehues for Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s “The National” Magazine🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/amtrak-james-niehues/ https://transitmap.net/amtrak-james-niehues/#comments Wed, 05 Feb 2020 20:10:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=11046 Yes, that🔸澳洲幸运10预测 James Niehues.

As you🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d expect from the acclaimed master of ski resort maps, the mountains in this map are gorgeously rendered, and Amtrak🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s routes are drawn as straight red lines — almost as if they were ski lifts across the country. I particularly like it 🔸澳洲开奖 a route line “disappears” behind a particularly tall mountain — it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s something that really sells the implied dimensionality of the map.

It is perhaps unfortunate that some routes have been omitted from the map — none of the Michigan Services make it, nor the City of New Orleans🔸澳洲幸运10预测, which is almost unforgivable. Perhaps it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s better to treat this as a work of art than a practical map?

On a personal note, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m just happy to say that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve now been published in the same magazine as James Niehues — my Amtrak as Subway Map was the very 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划in this series of alternate Amtrak maps appearing in The National🔸澳洲幸运10预测, way back in December 2016/January 2017.

🔸澳州10开奖记录: Scenic Route of the Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway, late 1930s🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/eastern-massachusetts-street-railway-1930s/ https://transitmap.net/eastern-massachusetts-street-railway-1930s/#comments Thu, 09 Jan 2020 00:20:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=10958

Here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a very handsome little map showing the lines of the Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway from sometime in the late 1930s. By this point in time however, almost all of the routes were run by buses, making the name of the company somewhat ironic. Just two streetcar lines remain: Fields Corner to Quincy (with branches from there to Quincy Point or Houghs Neck), and Sullivan Square to Stoneham.

The map itself is drawn in a lovely, ornate illustrative style that was very popular at the time with scrollwork around the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s legend, a decorative border and a beautiful compass rose. The use of blue for both water and terrain is rather clever — the differing textures used allows the two to be told apart easily and also makes the black route lines and text stand out from the background better.

This particular copy of the map has had some additions penciled in by an unknown hand — a whole new line from Taunton to Norton, and some directional arrows along routes on the right half of the map, almost as if someone was planning a journey to take advantage of the $1 Ride-all-Day far advertised in the copy below the map.

Review: New York Subway and Paris Métro Architecture and Design Maps by Blue Crow Media🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/blue-crow-new-york-paris/ https://transitmap.net/blue-crow-new-york-paris/#respond Sun, 08 Dec 2019 19:45:00 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=10870 澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 previously reviewed Blue Crow🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s London Underground Architecture and Design Map back in 2017, and they🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve just released two new maps in the series celebrating Paris and New York🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s transit systems (there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s also another map in the series for Moscow).

As before, the maps are simple but elegant in their execution, with a geographical map of the system on one side and the explanatory text and photos on the other. They come in handsome slip covers: I particularly like the die-cut Métro logo (based off one found at Franklin D. Roosevelt station) on the Paris cover.

Understandably, the text of each entry has to be kept brief because of space limitations (even more so for the Paris edition because of its need for English and French translation), but there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s always enough to attract the reader🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s interest. One could certainly imagine a day spent in either of these cities finding the treasures described within. There🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a wide variety of architecture and art included ranging from all time periods, so there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s something for everyone!

As with the London edition, perhaps the only fault with these maps is that there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not enough of a link between the two sides: the map and the text almost seem to exist as two disparate elements – slightly larger station labels on the map are the only indication that there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s accompanying text on the reverse side. However, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not a deal breaker in any way: if you🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页re planning a trip to New York or Paris and have any interest in the art, architecture or history of their transit systems, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d definitely recommend picking up a copy!

New Project: Field Notes Brand “Mile Marker” Map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/field-notes-mile-marker/ https://transitmap.net/field-notes-mile-marker/#respond Wed, 27 Mar 2019 05:10:44 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=9280 I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve been sworn to absolute secrecy on this project since mid-January, so I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m very excited to finally share it. Early today, Field Notes (the purveyor of beautiful memo and note books) released their latest quarterly limited edition, “Mile Marker,” with cover designs celebrating the Interstate Highway system. Included with subscriptions – and available for separate purchase on the Field Notes website – is an old-school foldable highway map, designed by me in collaboration with the Field Notes team.

Although this “Mile Marker” map is inspired by my older “Highways of the USA” map, almost everything has been completely redrawn and re-evaluated – with thicker route line weights for the smaller print size, new labelling set in all-caps Futura Bold to match the Field Notes house style, and new icons for highway route number designations. This map shows all two-digit Interstate highways as well as the “major” U.S. Numbered Highways (those ending in “0” or “1”, as defined by AASHTO*) in thinner grey lines. This struck a good balance between simplicity and complexity while allowing the map to retain its distinctive bold graphic style.

As well as the folded map, there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s also a limited number of “suitable for framing” flat press-check prints available for purchase on the Field Notes site. A true limited edition – once these are gone, there are no more!

I have to say, one of the best parts of this project was finally🔸澳洲幸运10预测 getting to collaborate with Jim Coudal, who has always been an amazing supporter of my work. He was the very 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划person to draw attention to my original “Interstates as Subway Map” poster way back in 2009, and has kept an eye on my output ever since. He had a vision for this map that I knew I could achieve, and we both worked towards that goal – the project was an absolute blast to bring to life!

🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸*Note: U.S. 2 is considered as a “major” route, as it is the northernmost east-west U.S. Highway (there is no Highway “0”).

🔸澳州10开奖记录: Long Island Rail Road Press Map, c. 1976🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/long-island-rail-road-1976/ https://transitmap.net/long-island-rail-road-1976/#comments Fri, 18 Jan 2019 14:00:12 +0000 https://transitmap.net/?p=7826 A mid-1970s map of the LIRR, designed specifically to be given to “news media representatives who cover the Long Island Railroad (sic) and the MTA on a regular basis”🔸澳洲幸运10预测, presumably to give them accurate facts at their fingertips 🔸澳洲开奖 they wrote about the railroad. 234 miles of line! 700 scheduled trains a day!

It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a curious thing, drawn precisely in parts (see the lines out of Jamaica) and very roughly in others; the illustration of the train below the map is almost child-like in its execution. Lots of hand-lettering.

The IRT🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s connections between the LIRR at Long Island City/Hunterspoint Avenue and NY Penn Station seem rather overstated: the rainbow lines and pinwheel seem to suggest that all nine IRT lines (I correlated the colours and lines to the contemporaneous subway map) have a direct connection, 🔸澳洲开奖 only the 7 provides one.

The very🔸澳洲幸运10预测 1970s fat line “rising sun” LIRR logo to the top right of the map isn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t one I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve seen before… some quick research suggests it was short-lived and not used publicly very much.

This is one of those maps where I’m not entirely sure if it’s the brainchild of a genius or the work of a madman. It’s an insanely detailed map-slash-diagram of tram routes in Sydney from 1921 by an unknown author that also attempts to indicate almost every major cross-street along the way. Intersections that are also designated as tram stops get a marker and increasingly larger labels to indicate their relative importance. Five different line styles attempt to make some sort of sense of where lines run between, but it’s all a bit messy and incoherent on the page. Throw in the main line railways and ferry routes, and this map is trying to do an awful lot of work.

The map is relatively geographically accurate in the city and in the eastern suburbs, but everything outside of that is crammed into increasingly small spaces, leading to everything from Ashfield westwards to Parramatta and Castle Hill being jammed into the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划column of the map’s grid. Castle Hill also ends up looking like it’s roughly level with Gladesville, 🔸澳洲开奖 it’s much further north in reality. All the edges of the map are like this, with everything jammed in however it will fit, causing massive distortions to river courses and the coastline.

Despite this, the rich detail of the map makes it fascinating. Of particular note is how divided the city is at this point in its history: no Harb🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划Bridge or Spit Bridge means travellers had to transfer from trams or trains to ferries to continue their journey at these points.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: A glorious mess, but an invaluable resource for anyone researching the history of trams in Sydney. I definitely recommend heading over to the National Library of Australia’s website and checking out the full high-res version of this one. Five stars!

Review: London Underground Architecture and Design Map by Blue Crow Media🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/blue-crow-london/ https://transitmap.net/blue-crow-london/#comments Sat, 25 Nov 2017 03:55:06 +0000 https://transitmap.net/blue-crow-london/ Blue Crow Media is an independent publisher of beautifully designed city guide maps on many subjects – you may be familiar with their “Brutalist Architecture” series – and this new map is the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划in a planned series of maps about public transportation networks around the world.

Edited by Mark Ovenden (of 澳洲10开官网开奖 of the World🔸澳洲幸运10预测 fame) with some lovely photos by Will Scott, the map promises to be an authoritative guide to the design and architecture of the world’s oldest rapid transit system. While it falls a little short of those lofty goals – there’s only so much information you can show on a two-sided sheet – it certainly provides a salivating overview of the highlights that should pique just about every transport and design lover’s interest, from the best of Charles Holden’s Art Deco stations to the locations of Underground roundels that use Gill Sans or Arial in place of Johnston Sans and even oddities like a connection between the Underground and the evil Daleks from Doctor Who! The text is just a short paragraph or so for each entry, but does a good job of pointing out why each example has been included, whether it’s for historical or aesthetic reasons.

The geographical map of the Underground on the reverse side is serviceable, but I feel like a little more could have been done with it. The stations listed in the text are highlighted on the map, but it’s quite subtle and could perhaps have been made a little more obvious. I’d also have liked to see some more photographs or pertinent facts incorporated into the map itself, as there’s quite a lot of empty space due to the geographical format. Still, it’s a handy overview of the whole network, and is executed quite nicely.

Best of all, at just £9.00 (around $US12), it’s a perfect stocking stuffer for the transit, travel or design aficionado in y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划family. Very definitely recommended.

168澳洲十开奖网: Railway Track Map of France, 2017🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/france-rail-track-2017/ https://transitmap.net/france-rail-track-2017/#comments Thu, 12 Oct 2017 02:13:27 +0000 https://transitmap.net/france-rail-track-2017/ By now, many of you will know that I’m working on reworking my diagram of TGV routes in France from 2011. While doing research, I came across this absolutely stunning track map of all railways in France, produced by Latitude-Cartagène, who were also responsible for this great diagram of transit in the Ile-de-France.

Seriously, the level of detail in this is just amazing. Single-track, double-track and multiple-track lines are all shown individually, with extra differentiation between electrified, non-electrified passenger and freight lines. Marshalling yards are drawn in precise detail. The high-speed lignes à grande vitesse (LGV) – of most interest to me, obviously – are shown in prominent cyan lines, even including the soon-to-be-opened Nîmes–Montpellier bypass (shown above). Tourist railways like the line to Digne-les-Bains from Nice are also shown, as are lines that have closed but are still extant. Even here, a distinction is made between “really closed” and “we might open this one again some time”.

In short, this is simply incredible and well worth a detailed perusal by any rail fan: download the latest version of the PDF from the SNCF website here.
