This handsome birds-eye view map of eastern Washington State comes from the Pullman Primer🔸澳洲幸运10预测, a prospectus put together by the Pullman Chamber of Commerce in 1911 to attract business to the city. It shows the city nestled in the foreground, surrounded by the fertile lands of the Palouse, with Seattle and Portland in the far distance. All across the plains stretch the lines of the many and varied railroad companies of the day, connecting Pullman with the wider world.

Upon further inspection, it can be seen that one of the lines into Pullman – that of the Spokane & Inland Empire Electric Railway from Colfax – is only proposed🔸澳洲幸运10预测 at this point in time (and was never actually ever constructed). It is perhaps unfortunate that some routes have been omitted from the map — none of the Michigan Services make it, nor the City of New Orleans🔸澳洲幸运10预测, which is almost unforgivable. Perhaps it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s better to treat this as a work of art than a practical map?

This confection of a map appears on SNCF🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s website for their low-cost, no-frills, everything-costs-extra TGV service, Ouigo🔸澳洲幸运10预测 (a name that makes a pun in both English and🔸澳洲幸运10预测 French — “we go” in the former and “yes, go” in the latter).

The map is certainly bright and cheerful, and very definitely on brand for the service. It uses the bright magenta and sky blue colours from the train livery liberally and presents all of France as a theme park (complete with “roller coaster” track!) called “Ouigoland” — tying in perfectly with the service🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s tagline of “Let🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s play!”

The major destinations get little illustrative icons to depict the region, ranging from a lovely little Hotel Negresco in Nice to a paper cone of anthropomorphic frites (!) in Lille. The elephant for Nantes confused me at first, but there is🔸澳洲幸运10预测 actually an enormous mechanical pachyderm —  Le Grand Élephant🔸澳洲幸运10预测 — in that city. You can take rides in it! The starfish sunning itself on a towel is probably my favourite.

Here is a picture I took of a map from inside the trains on the JR West Kakogawa Line, a suburban/rural line around Kobe and Osaka. It looks like it could be for tourism, but all the sights pictured are small local temples, official city buildings, and the like, with very few proper tourist sights. I don🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t know if this map is that helpful, especially since seemed like almost all locals taking the train, but I like it and whoever made it seemed to have fun while doing so.

For a smaller, semi-rural branch line like this, the lighter tone is totally appropriate and the whole thing still works perfectly well for its intended wayfinding purposes. The line is presented as a clear, straight line and interchanges with other lines are indicated clearly, with connections to other JR lines at either end, as well as to the Hōjō Line and the Shintetsu Ao Line at Ao station (the seventh station from the left).

If you look closely, you can see that there used🔸澳洲幸运10预测 to be another line heading towards the bottom of the map from Yakujin station (fourth from the left), but this has now been covered or painted over. This was the Miki Line, which shut down in 2008 — suggesting that this map has been in use for a good number of years, with neat alterations like this keeping it up to date.

A neat little “on the subway” character sketch, complete with a cameo from the New York subway map in the background. Love it!

Artist Hwan Lee has walked (yes, walked!🔸澳洲幸运10预测) to 261 Métro stations in Paris, sketching their many and varied entrances, from the spectacular Hector Guimard-designed Art Nouveau édicules🔸澳洲幸运10预测 at Abbesses and Porte Dauphine to the more prosaic entrances of the modern Ligne 14. The lively sketches of each entrance are arranged nicely onto a stylised Métro map, with Lee’s walking path denoted by a trail of feet all over the city. Delightful!

Extremely nifty isometric “pixel art” illustration showing all the family-friendly adventures that can be had on England’s Southern Rail network. Probably not much use as an actual map, but it does name/highlight a lot of the useful stations and the activities that can be had in the region. A lot of fun to be had poring over the detailed illustration, and I love the pencilled rough for comparison.

The artist, Rod Hunt, is perhaps best known for his “Where’s Stig?” books – a kind of “Where’s Wally?*” for Top Gear🔸澳洲幸运10预测 fans.
