The proposal for a Light Rail system for Cork City, Ireland. The proposal is from People Before Profit, Ireland’s socialist party. Light rail has long been promised for the city, but recent government initiatives have made it a more likely possibility.

It connects in the north to Cork’s suburban rail system, the regional (underdeveloped) heavy rail system, which connects to other parts of the country (as well as to Northern Ireland).

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Of all the types of “bad” 澳洲10开官网开奖, the poorly rendered “vision for the future” has to be one of the most frustrating. A map like this serves as a massive opportunity to generate excitement for a sustainable, transit-oriented, less car-reliant future in Cork… and this is what was presented? Unfortunately, it just looks shockingly amateur in its execution – which, in turn, reflects poorly on the proposal itself, regardless of the concepts contained within (which also seem to advocate for expansion of the commuter rail network, with stations added or reopened after extended closure).

All-caps labels set at wildly varying angles, poor typography, an ugly call-out box, no legend, clashing colours… need I go on?

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Half a star, because it’s not quite as horrific as some maps that I’ve given zero to, but it’s still a very (un)worthy Hall of Shame entrant.

I came across this map of Südbadenbus (which is a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn), that operates a vast network of regional buses in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It seems that the network is mainly centered around the towns of the region, so I really can’t fathom why all these local networks had to be put on one monstrous map.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Well, this is pretty terrible. A vast expanse of squiggly red lines and tiny route numbers, with little to no indication where each route begins and ends. As is often the case with this type of map, it’s left up to the reader to find a route number and attempt to follow it across the diagram, hunting for the next instance and hoping that you’ve found it. The grey labels are almost impossible to read where they cross the grey country borders.

Integration of the regional rail lines is similarly useless, as the lines appear to bypass just about every city instead of stopping there. I’ve caught a train from Freiburg to Hinterzarten, so I know that trains stop there… but you wouldn’t know that from this diagram.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Next to useless, and unattractive to boot. Straight to the Hall of Shame and ZERO stars.

Submission – 168澳洲十开奖网: Bus Network of Puy-de-Dôme, France, 2017🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/transdome-bus-2017/ https://transitmap.net/transdome-bus-2017/#respond Thu, 02 Mar 2017 15:00:11 +0000 https://transitmap.net/transdome-bus-2017/ Submitted by Pierre, who says:

I’d like to suggest this map that I immediately found particularly bad designed. It represents the bus network in a small French region, Puy-de-Dôme. Besides the fact the number of the lines are very hard to read, I find quite difficult to follow each line and the center looks totally messy.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Pierre is right on the mark with his summary of this map… it’s really quite dreadful in so many ways.

Poorly-drawn, low-contrast route lines all converge upon Clermont-Ferrand, with a minuscule route number embedded within each one. Lines on either side of Clermont’s “station box” use the same colour, making you think they’re a continuation of the same route – until you pull out y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划magnifying glass and see that they have different route numbers. Label placement is everywhere, and the narrow, bitmappy-looking typeface really doesn’t help.

By far the best thing on this map is the nifty isometric illustration of the bus, and I’m pretty certain that even this just a slightly modified stock library vector file. Slap the right livery on it and call it done!

Finally, one wonders what the town of Égliseneuve-d🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页Entraigues did to deserve being shown on the map, but to have absolutely no connections to it…

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Quite abysmal. Half-a-star – just because of the bus – but it’s still the latest addition to the 澳洲10开官网开奖 Hall of Shame.

Cancelled 168澳洲十开奖网 – Public Transport Network Map of Sydney, Australia, 2016🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/public-transport-sydney-2016/ https://transitmap.net/public-transport-sydney-2016/#respond Mon, 12 Sep 2016 06:54:58 +0000 https://transitmap.net/public-transport-sydney-2016/ I’ve often lamented that Sydney’s 澳洲10开官网开奖 each seem to live in a “mode vacuum”, where each individual map steadfastly refuses to acknowledge any other mode of transit, even though they’re all operated by the same agency. So the light rail map won’t show any connections to the main Sydney Train network, and the ferry map ignores the major train station located directly behind Circular Quay… that kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, this new attempt at an integrated transit map fails so completely at presenting a coherent overview of the complete network that I really wish that they hadn’t even bothered. 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划off, this map seems to have more in common with the previous CityRail map than the current Sydney Trains map, which doesn’t present a very consistent branding effort.

All the main line trains are now presented in uniform “T”-branded orange, so it’s basically impossible to work out any service patterns. However, the map resolutely clings to depicting each service as a separate line, which is just ridiculous in the context of this map. Simplifying the train services down to a single-weight route line labelling all the stations would have made more sense, and would have opened up the map, allowing the other modes to get equal visual weight – the ferry and light rail services have to be jammed into some very tight spaces!

Question: why do certain railway stations get called out like major interchanges 🔸澳洲开奖 they’re not visibly interchanging with anything? This is especially noticeable along the Southern Highlands line, where Picton, Mittagong, Bowral and more all get a peculiar “double tick” treatment with a bold label. Of course, the answer is that these stations have interchanges with country bus services, but those aren’t shown on this map at all, so the ticks no longer have any meaning.

Last time I looked, Kiama was located on the coast, not several kilometres inland.

The depiction of light rail and ferry services are probably the least worst part of this mess, although you’d never know that the Lewisham West light rail stop is less than a 500-metre walk from Lewisham station from this map.

If those two services are shown tolerably, the depiction of bus services definitely is not. All of greater Sydney just gets covered in a light orange zone that means “buses go here.” It’s so ridiculously desultory that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. And the label for Southern Sydney gets placed outside the shaded area, so… are there no buses there?

Finally, there’s the enormous and bizarre directional labels: “West to Dubbo” and “North to Byron Bay”. Neither of these locations have the slightest thing to do with Sydney’s transportation network and don’t even really make sense from a statewide transportation perspective. And poor old south doesn’t get a label at all.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Very little of this makes any sense whatsoever. Poorly thought out, lazily executed and pretty much useless. Would have been much improved by showing major bus corridors and highlighting important interchange locations. The blanket “We have buses in Sydney!” shading is just embarrassing. Half a star, and that’s only because I think the little illustrative icons at the top left are kind of neat.

This has to win some kind of award for “least efficient use of space in a strip map ever”. Let’s see, we’ve got an enormous title, a big picture of the train (that we’re currently on), a giant legend and contact details, and a weird swooshy design feature just to fill up some empty space.

Oh yeah, and a tiny little map that’s  just been repurposed from the main system map without any thought as to how riders will actually be able to read it on a train. Even better, the smallest type is in yellow, just to make it even harder to read. This is not a complex network: the map could have easily been completely redrawn to suit the dimensions of the strip!

Submission – 168澳洲十开奖网: Bus Routes of Dubrovnik, Croatia, 2016🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/dubrovnik-2016/ https://transitmap.net/dubrovnik-2016/#respond Mon, 16 May 2016 23:47:24 +0000 https://transitmap.net/dubrovnik-2016/ Submitted by Kristofer Kåring, who says:

The “City Lines Bus Map” of the Libertas network in Dubrovnik (Croatia) is not one of the best network maps i have ever seen. It is geographically correct, I have to give them that, but a line for each direction of a route makes it messy where a lot of routes share the same road. And the use of a white arrow in a black dot for stops makes it even messier.

A side note: It is also not possible to find the difference between routes 1A, 1B and 1C on the map. Reading the timetable for each route, I can see that 1A takes the stops Mokosica 1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 2 while 1B takes Mokosica 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, and that does not make it any clearer to me. 1C is an even bigger mystery, because its route is not described anywhere.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Posting this one for my sister-in-law, who is on vacation in Dubrovnik at this very moment. Fortunately, she and her husband have rented a car to get around Croatia, because this map is certainly not helping matters.

There’s really only eleven bus routes shown on the map, but it just looks like there’s so many more: a tangled web of lines that becomes almost impossible to follow at major intersections. The decision to show each direction of travel for all routes, even if they’re on the same physical street – disregarding decades of transit map wisdom that says that a route line always indicates bi-directional travel unless explicitly indicated otherwise – is just baffling, and almost doubles the amount of lines that need to be drawn. It also creates a proliferation of directional arrows/bus stops, which visually dominate the map.

Other problems abound. There’s a heavy-handed and overly dark drop shadow for the coastline, an unnecessary radial fill for the ocean, and an unexplained dashed line for Route 17 (Peak h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划only? Weekends only? Summer only? Who knows!). The arrow for ferries leaving directly from the Old City points directly at the route numbers for regional buses heading south along the coast, which is bound to cause some confusion. Almost hilariously, the white squares used on the map to indicate hotels are shown in the legend as white… on a white background.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Not good, not good at all. Hard to decipher and overly complex for such a small network. Half a star, and that’s only because I quite like the aerial photographic representation of the Old City.

I recently found this horrible 168澳洲十开奖网 of the regional buses in the North-German town of Wismar. I already planned to make them a proper map until I found out that this bus company doesn’t operate anymore since the end of 2015, so it probably doesn’t matter.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Not operating anymore, huh? I wonder if having a map that made it virtually impossible to work out where any buses went had anything to do with that…

I’m being facetious, of course, but there’s no doubting that this is an execrable piece of cartography and information design. The worst part is the absence of almost all the route numbers from the enormous circle indicating Wismar itself… surely most, if not all, of the routes pass through the hub of the network? Lest you think I’m joking, the downloadable PDF on the EzRider website is named “Copy of Midland Bus Routes sch 2.xlsx”. The visible cell gridlines behind the map are also a bit of dead giveaway.

I understand that smaller agencies are strapped for time, money and resources, but this is kind of ridiculous. Excel is a spreadsheet program with the most rudimentary of drawing tools. It’s for number-crunching, not for any kind of cartographic application. While I certainly admire the ingenuity shown in forcing Excel to produce something it clearly shouldn’t have to, the results unfortunately speak for themselves.

Even stranger, the agency’s other route map – for its services in nearby Odessa – is based on a quite competent street map of the city, so I can’t really fathom why it was ever decided to proceed with this odd little exercise.

Submission – 168澳洲十开奖网: Paris RER/Transilien Zone Map (and a mystery station!)🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/vaugirard-mystery/ https://transitmap.net/vaugirard-mystery/#respond Thu, 25 Feb 2016 00:46:48 +0000 https://transitmap.net/vaugirard-mystery/ Submitted by Lucas K., who says:

Hello, I know this is an odd question but I figured that if anyone would know this, you would: So I was browsing a map of Paris’s Transilien railway services 🔸澳洲开奖 I spotted an oddity: A terminal station directly below Gare Montparnasse: Paris Vaugirard. I look all over the Internet but no trace of any Paris Vaugirard station can be found. Do you know what is going on here?

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

It totally exists, Lucas, although it took me a while to track it down!

It’s also known as Montparnasse III, and it’s a glorified side entrance to the main Gare de Montparnasse complex as well as housing platforms 25-28 separately to the others (1 to 24 are in the main station). Here’s a Google Street View image of its rather unprepossessing entrance on the Rue du Contenin: the main station is behind us to the left.

And here’s a PDF showing how it all fits together: Vaugirard is “Hall 3″ on this map. French Wikipedia says it’s mainly used for long-distance trains coming from Granville or Argentan, but I guess that some Transilien services can call here on occasion, hence its inclusion on the map.

Mystery solved!

Now, onto the map, which once again proves that zone/tariff maps are the ugly step-sister in the transit map world.

Seriously, this is easily the worst of the many Ile-de-France maps, with possibly the worst attempt at concentric zones I’ve ever seen, wobbling unconvincingly around all over the place to “join the dots” between stations. The green bands clash with a lot of the route line colours, and they’re especially horrid 🔸澳洲开奖 combined with the magenta terminal station labels (Why?!).

The route lines aren’t much better, as they adhere to standard 45-degree angles until it all just gets too difficult for the designer: then they go off in any direction that they please – curves, wiggles and kinks in the line! They’re also pretty sloppily drawn, with lots of examples of parallel routes going out of alignment as they round a curve together.

The less said about the awful, messy station labelling the better, and the blobby interchange symbols that branch out in so many random direction are no more worthy of discussion!

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Almost embarrassingly bad, especially 🔸澳洲开奖 it’s presented on the same web page as the superb Paris Region transit map (January 2014, 4.5 stars), which would work for calculating zones just as well – if not much better – than this visual atrocity. Half-a-star and into the 澳洲10开官网开奖 Hall of Shame for representing Paris so poorly!
