Recently I was back in Auckland, after not having been there for years. I discovered that my parents have never caught the bus there; this is despite them living close to reasonable bus routes, and – as senior citizens – having free public transport most of the time. (They are not against public transport; they are just migrants who were never shown how to look up public transport information.) So I tried to get them interested in catching the bus, “You can get to and from home for FREE!”, and I drew them an A4 schematic map of the public transport services in their world.

The map is geared towards just these two people. (I should have done it in my parents🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 languages, but… I was basically too lazy to do it in languages other than English.) During my time with them I observed the range of places that they might need to go to, and facilities that they might need, e.g. medical facilities, closer-by shopping centres, public toilets. I have only included lines that they are likely to need, as I didn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t want to clutter the map any further. (For other lines, they can look them up in the official network maps.)

How much each transport hub/station is visually accentuated in the map is based more on its saliency in their lives, and less on its actual size. As for the line colours, I followed the line colours as used by Auckland Transport, so sometimes I could not avoid placing lines with similar colours next to each other. (As for the train lines, I used hues from an older version of the official train network map, to make them somewhat more distinctive from the adjacent bus line colours.) Frequency of the services is indicated by line width and dash style. The apartness of the bus versus train lines at Newmarket and Sylvia Park is iconic of their actual distance. There are also two small circular areas of which the representations are geographically true, and all the bus stops within are shown: these are areas where they need to know the exact location of bus stops.

(They were very happy 🔸澳洲开奖 I took them on buses, trains, and the ferry, all of them free to them off-peak.)

Dunedin, NZ had the second cable car system in the world (after San Francisco), as well as an extensive network of trams, with some ferries and rail as well. This is a map of the greatest extent of that old network, including historical closing dates and old line numbers. None of this infrastructure is around now (pretty much all cable cars, tramways and metro rail got canned in NZ from 1950-2000), but it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s still a fantastic piece of history for 🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划small city.

澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 says:

Sam sent a very early version of this map to me (quite) a while ago, then asked me to hold off on publishing it while he reworked it. Fast forward to now and we have this lovely map in a modern style that revisits the halcyon days of rail-based transit in Dunedin.

I particularly like how the greenbelt of parks forms a logical boundary between the detailed street grid of the city and the more stylised surrounding suburbs. Wisely, Sam has labelled all the streets that the cable cars and trams ran along, so this approach works well. His col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划palette is bright and pleasing, though interestingly, the cable cars tend to get darker, duller colours (which is one way of quickly identifying them, I guess!).

I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m not thrilled by the transparent fill underneath the legend that the coastline and rail and ferry lines can be seen through. The lines interfere too much with the legibility of the type and don🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t add that much to the meaning of the map. The lines could simply end at the edge of the map proper, with labelled arrows pointing in the direction of the final destinations. The cheeky way that the Andersons Bay line inserts itself between different sections of the legend is quite fun, though.

Finally, while Sam notes the ending date of each of the services (“Until 8/1947”, etc.), he doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t tell us 🔸澳洲开奖 each service started🔸澳洲幸运10预测. As I doubt they all sprang into existence on the same date, this information would be really interesting to show.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸🔸澳洲幸运10在线人工计划网: Rapid Mass Transit of a Future Christchurch by Sam van der Weerden🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/christchurch-vanderweerden/ https://transitmap.net/christchurch-vanderweerden/#respond Mon, 30 Oct 2017 14:00:30 +0000 https://transitmap.net/christchurch-vanderweerden/ Submitted by Sam, who says:

After a year and a bit of following this blog I’ve finally decided to make my own map!

As you may know, the city of Christchurch, NZ is currently going through a massive rebuilding effort following the quakes of 2010 and 2011. There are constant conversations around what to do with the future of the city’s transport network, with talks of trains appearing here and there in media (and most recently as election promises). Soon, the crown agency Regenerate Christchurch will release a shortlist of proposals for the ‘red zoned’ land in east Christchurch, and this will likely include some form of mass transit.

Inspired by all this chatter I made a map of what I think could be the future of Christchurch’s rapid transit! I tried to make it in a 45 / 90 grid but eventually went with a 30 / 60 / 90 just because I wanted to show more detail of the bus routes. The CBD has been enlarged, but still maintains the ‘f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划avenues’ that surround it to make the differing scale obvious.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Congratulations on y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划map, Sam – it’s a great start and I really like quite a few things about it. 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划off, I think I definitely notice the influence of Jug Cerovic’s work on this… and that’s never a bad starting point. Y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划station markers that match the width of the lines passing through are pretty neat as well, and everything is neatly drawn. The use of 30/60-degree angles is effective and creates some nice shapes, though you could perhaps look at finding ways of making things more stylised. For example, the “W” shape the orbital line makes at the bottom is so close to being symmetrical, and the fact that it isn’t keeps catching my eye and drawing it to that area.

However, y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划type is way too small and absolutely has to be larger to be legible. A general starting point is giving y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划letters an x-height (that is, the height of the lower-case letter “x”) that’s equal to the thickness of y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划route lines, so I’d start there and adjust as necessary. There’s plenty of wide open space, so enlarging the type shouldn’t be too difficult. I think you’ll find this one change will make a huge difference to the effectiveness of the map. Try printing y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划map out as big as you can and sticking it to a wall. Walk back a few feet and see if you can read it. If you can’t, make the type bigger!

Speaking of wide open spaces, I have to say that I think that y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划initial sketch map (as shown above) actually uses space more effectively. It’s more pleasingly compact in shape and yet retains the same level of information. And, even in this rough drawing, the larger hand-lettered labels show you how effective they can be.

I’d also suggest labelling major roads that the bus routes travel along to help orient users. Otherwise, the twists and turns they make just look a little random and you may as well straighten them out to make the shapes simpler.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: A great start that just needs a bit of refinement to make it sing. Bigger type is a must!

They just went through a redesign and man this map is just useless. I cannot begin to imagine what they were thinking with this design :/

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

It’s really hard to argue with Peter’s succinct summary of this map: it’s really pretty dire, especially in the context of a bus network with new and supposedly improved routes which might need explaining. The long axis of routes running from the Botanic Gardens down through the Octagon is almost totally indecipherable – are all routes running along one street or multiple parallel streets? And what’s happening in the tangle at the centre is anyone’s guess. The route lines have obviously all been drawn freehand as well, rather than offsetting paths accurately, which adds to the chaotic feeling.

The one and only mitigating factor is that this is a general overview map at the beginning of a timetable booklet, so it’s not really meant to be used for proper navigation of the system. The journey planner on the agency’s website seems to be a lot more user-friendly, and I’m really, really hoping that any system maps at bus shelters aren’t based off this.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Not really intended as a full system map, which saves it from a zero. Half a star.

Submitted by Greater Auckland, who says:

I’d like to submit 🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划new future Auckland regional transit map for a good brutally honest frisking! We follow y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划blog and you’ll see more than a few design cues have been picked up from y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划work.

This was done by Greater Auckland (formerly TransportBlog) to promote the revised Congestion Free Network Plan.

This network plan takes the best parts of the official Auckland multi-decade plan – the rapid transit of course! – and shows the system Auckland could have within 10 or 15 years… if the most of the public transport project funding was brought forward and the motorways and highways pushed back. About 30% of this is already existing, 60% planned by the city (eventually), and 10% invented by Greater Auckland.

The map is based on the ‘official’ planning map from the government (see page 23 of this document (PDF) but has been thoroughly improved to make it look like a real life map on a metro station wall.

It is designed as a A2 poster so some of the detail is quite small. In 🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划recent fundraising drive we sold over a hundred copies at $100 a piece, so if you have any major comments let us know asap before we go to print!

The launch post with links is here. The map PDF can be found here, and the report that goes with it here.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划off, the report that supports this map is rather wonderful, and a great read for those who are interested in such things. Auckland’s transit is already undergoing quite a transformation, and documents like this help continue that conversation into the future.

The map itself is quite lovely, I must say. The diagrammatic lines have been integrated with the geographical coastline quite expertly, although this does necessarily mean that the central portion of the map is a little cramped in comparison with the outer reaches. It’s only really a problem on the section of the green Western line between Baldwin Avenue and Mount Eden, which really does feel like things have been jammed in where they fit.

In general, I’m not the biggest advocate of colour-matching station labels with their respective lines: I always think it makes the map look more disjointed, and makes some lines look visually stronger than others just by virtue of having the darkest colour. It’s almost always the biggest problem with routes that are yellow, as the labels are much lighter than all the others. In a map like this, I’d prefer all the similar labels to be one colour. The attractive dark blue/grey used for interchange stations would work nicely for the rail/BRT stations, while an ever-so-slightly darker blue would make the ferry labels a little more visible against the background. At the moment, the labels are a little too tonally similar to the blue water fill for my liking.

After that, I’d just take a look at some of the label placement. Some are a little close to the route lines: Balmoral sits higher than Epsom, for example, and Orakei clips its route line as it goes around the curve. Shift it a tiny bit to the right and this won’t happen… that kind of little fix makes all the difference in the end.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: Overall, this is great work – clean, modern and inviting – that provides an inspiring look at the future of rapid transit in Auckland. Three stars!

🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果走势图🔸Answer: I hadn’t actually seen or heard of this before, but some quick Googling found what I think you’re describing on a New Zealand-based online store’s website (link no longer active). It’s out of stock (of course), and it still doesn’t give any credit to the creators, but at least it proves that it exists!

Or should I say existed? Because looking at it, I would not be at all surprised if Transport for London had actually issued a “cease and desist” order on the tea towel’s design. They can be pretty unforgiving 🔸澳洲开奖 people use the Underground roundel, Johnston Sans and other recognisable design elements of the Tube Map without authorisation, and this tea towel certainly does that!

I think Brent describes it best:

There are plans for a more comprehensive public transport network in Wellington. What a shame that the schematic depicting it is a monstrosity that looks like it was done by the work-experience kid. You’re gonna need eye-bleach.🔸澳洲幸运10预测

This is one I conjured up this weekend, dealing with Wellington, NZ. Only f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划local bus routes (and the Airport Flyer) turned out to meet any half-reasonable “frequent service” criteria.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:🔸澳洲幸运10预测

A gorgeous looking map from long-time follower, Brent Palmer, that unfortunately serves to highlight the paucity of frequent 🔸澳洲幸运10开奖官网开奖结果澳大利亚 in New Zealand’s capital. Another striking dark background, and some unusual but highly effective colours for the routes themselves. Brent makes good use of the extra space afforded by the lack of routes, with nice big numbers for the routes, clear type, and a very handy inset diagram of commuter rail services. Top notch work indeed. Four-and-a-half stars!

168澳洲十开奖网: MAXX Commuter Rail, Auckland, New Zealand, 2012🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/auckland-rail/ https://transitmap.net/auckland-rail/#respond Tue, 24 Jul 2012 19:00:44 +0000 https://transitmap.net/auckland-rail/ Time to get away from North America and Europe and head further afield… about as far afield as you can go, actually! Here’s the system map for Auckland, New Zealand’s commuter rail system. This map, available from the MAXX website, seems to be based off the map they place above doors in the actual train carriages. This explains the horizontal format which skews the Southern Line out to the right of the map instead of towards the bottom, where it heads in real life.

Have we been there?🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Yes, way back in 1993… I didn’t catch any trains.

What we like:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Clear, simple and easy to understand. Nice differentiation between normal stations and interchanges.

What we don’t like:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 The labels angled to 30 degrees seems almost entirely unnecessary, as they could fit horizontally with minimal effort. It looks particularly odd at Manukau station, where a 45-degree curve meets the 30-degree type.

Strangely, station names are set in two different sizes: all stations on the Western Line are 18-point, but stations past Penrose on the Eastern, Southern and Onehunga Line are set in 16-point. I can’t see any reason why this is necessary at all, and seems like an error made by the designer to me.

Finally, and this is no actual fault of the map itself… I know it’s an historical name (being named after the British Navy ship that surveyed Auckland Harb🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划in the 1840s), but “Britomart” just makes it sound like Auckland’s main railway station is located under a cheap convenience store.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating:🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Competent, but not exactly exciting. Average in just about every way, including my score: two-and-a-half-stars.
