However, with the opening of the Silver Line route to Chelsea (SL3) earlier this year, certain parts of my design just weren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t going to cut it anymore. Looking at the old version, it was also painfully🔸澳洲幸运10预测 obvious to me that I could do a much better job now with all that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve learned over the intervening six years. So! Redesign!

View the map below (updated to March 2022 with the opening of the GLX to Union Square), or click here to view it full-screen.

🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划things first: note that this an evolution🔸澳洲幸运10预测 of the previous version, not a complete redesign. So a lot of the general look and feel remains the same – the 3:2 ratio of the overall dimensions, the use of a circle centred on Bowdoin to define the scale and grid of the map, the distinctive configuration of the Green Line branches, etc. These are all things that I was still happy with from the previous version, so they became part of the building blocks for this version.

AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 thing I really wanted this new map to be was a little less generic🔸澳洲幸运10预测 than my old one: its station connectors and iconography really looked like they could have belonged to pretty much any city. So I looked back to the original 1967 MBTA spider maps, which used black dots for stations with thin connector lines between lines at North Station and Haymarket; while the individual line map used coloured squares to indicate connections to other lines (see image to left)🔸澳洲幸运10预测. I used these as inspiration for the station markers on my map, drawing on the MBTA🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s heritage while also updating them slightly to account for the modern system🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s increased complexity. Using black dots meant that I had to brighten up the line colours considerably from the old version, which used richer “heritage” hues, like crimson for the Red Line in hon🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划of Harvard instead of a normal red. The 1967 spider map also inspired my use of a thinner route line for the Mattapan Line, which really helps differentiate it from the  adjacent Red Line at Ashmont. While it may seem heretical to some, I also ditched Helvetica Medium as the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s typeface, opting for the superbly legible Fira Sans instead (also used on my Amtrak Subway Map). Finally, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve employed the superb Accessible Icon to indicate accessibility at rail stations – it reads much better at smaller sizes than the old ISO Standards icon; and it originated in Boston, so its use seems highly appropriate.

From here, a lot of the work was just being far more deliberate with how the map was structured. More elements were purposefully aligned with each other this time around, which creates a cleaner, more organised feel.  For example, the Red Line from Alewife all the way down to Braintree is now a perfectly symmetrical bow shape, which pleases me immensely. The Needham Line (included in full this time around!) lines up with Forest Hills station, then Morton St, then Shawmut. The Mattapan Line aligns with the Greenbush Line. The Red Line bullet at Braintree aligns with the Blue Line bullet at Wonderland, defining the eastern edge of the network. There🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s way too many examples to write about, so here🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a picture. The pink guide lines show intentional relationships between elements on the map: note in particular how  the baselines of station labels line up all across the map to create invisible horizontal gridlines.

The Silver Line was simplified a lot from the old map: running three lines in parallel for the SL1, SL2 and SL3 out of South Station was going to be too unwieldy, so one line was to represent all trunk services. I also committed to horizontal labels for the  Silver Line, so the SL2 down to Design Center doesn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t quite maintain its true geographical relationship to the Red Line now, extending far further south than it should. However, I think this is a worthwhile tradeoff, as the Silver Line is now a lot more legible and attractive. The new SL3 up to Chelsea integrates itself into the network very cleanly, I think. In a little bit of a cheat, I haven🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t used accessibility icons for the Silver Line in order to make the map a bit less cluttered, although its full accessibility status is noted in the legend at the top.

Other things I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m really pleased with: the simplified geography of the coastline and the fading gradient blue to represent water. The even spacing of all the stations on the Orange Line (the northern half was compressed a lot on the old version simply because I was running out of room). The use of bullets to indicate the downtown Green Line branch turnaround stations (also explained fully in the legend). The perfect “Y” bifurcation of the commuter rail lines at Back Bay. The detailed and accurate depiction of the station layout and services at Readville. The indication that only the Silver Line is accessible at Boylston. Very few labels cutting across route lines (There🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s only three, compared to at least 11 on the previous version).

For me, this new version is a huge🔸澳洲幸运10预测 improvement over the old one – not just in how it looks, but also in the way that I pulled the whole thing together. The design gelled right from the start, and I made almost no compromises to the design rules that I set up at the start of the project – always a big indicator of success! While my memory is hazy of the process from six years ago, this version felt like it took far less time and wasn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t anywhere near as frustrating.

As always, thoughts and comments are welcome! Prints are available in the 澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 store for $27 plus shipping.

While preparing today’s post about the current Medellin Metro map (2 stars), I kept looking at the map and asking myself if there were ways that I could improve upon it. Eventually, I had enough ideas to make a reworking worthwhile and set about the task.

I’ve chosen to show a “near-future” version of the system, with the “M” and “P” MetroCable lines completed, but without the Line 3 BRT, as I can’t find enough information on the names of proposed stations to include it properly. It’s worth noting that there is plenty of room to include it at a later date.

The typeface used is URW DIN, which echoes the use of DIN on the 2014 version of the map (the latest version uses an uncomfortable mixture of DIN and Myriad, which don’t really work that well together). All in all, this map represents about eight hours of work from initial concept to completion.

As always with a hypothetical redesign like this, I set myself some clear goals to achieve, these being:

  • A stronger sense of hierarchy. All the route lines on the 168澳洲十开奖网 are the same thickness, which makes it a little tricky to differentiate between modes. I chose to make the Metro lines (the backbone of the system) thicker, with the tram and BRT lines slightly thinner. Finally, the MetroCable lines – which act as feeders to the rest of the system – are thinner still, which is also a nice visual representation of the thin cables that the gondolas run on. The Metro gets square line letter bullets, while the tram gets a reversed square to indicate its role as a sort of “Pre-Metro”. The other modes get discs, with letters for the MetroCable and numbers for BRT.
  • All horizontal labels. Part of the messiness on the 168澳洲十开奖网 comes from the fact that some of its labels have to be angled to fit into the layout, which then shifts other stations out of place in order to accommodate them. Looking at maps of Medellin, I realised that the central part of the city is actually angled quite substantially away from a true north-south orientation. By using (and somewhat exaggerating) that angle throughout the map, I was able to arrange all the labels so that there were no clashes and no angled labels. It also gives the whole map a nice dynamic, I think. For those curious about the angles, the map is based on a 2:1 grid – for every two grid squares that Line A moves northwards, for example, it also moves one square eastwards. This equals a clockwise rotation of 26.565 degrees, which is a tiny bit less severe than a full 30 degrees, but gave me enough room to work with 🔸澳洲开奖 staggering my labels.
  • Better indication of pedestrian transfers. The 168澳洲十开奖网 indicates stations where a walk between modes is required by enclosing them in a white lozenge with a dotted black outline. Unfortunately, it’s visually very similar to the standard transfer symbol (a white lozenge with a solid black outline), and is especially confusing at Industriales station, where the ambiguity of the symbol doesn’t really indicate that the pedestrian transfer is a lengthy walk between the Metro station on the east side of the river and the bus station for Lines 1 and 2 on the west. I’ve used an easier-to-understand thin black line connector between the separate parts of these transfer stations: the one at Industriales is correspondingly longer to indicate that lengthy hike.
  • Simplification. All the route lines are as straight as possible – no kinks in MetroCable and tram routes, and no random angles. Similarly, the station transfer symbols are presented in their simplest form. The central part of the map has been expanded for clarity and to allow ample room for labels (compare the label for Exposiciones station on both maps), while still adhering to a standard grid – the three north-south lines through the city centre are now evenly spaced, making for a more pleasing composition.
  • A properly designed legend. The legend on the 168澳洲十开奖网 is crammed into some left over space at the bottom of the map – I wanted to take the time to craft a legend that fitted into a properly allocated space, which also means the map stands alone without having its breathing room taken up by extra information.

I also had a bit of fun with the river, using my favourite “Harry Beck Tube Map river stripes effect” and allowing it to break the map’s border at the top and the bottom (to show that it doesn’t just end at the map’s edge). I also indicate the approximate shape of the extensive Parque Arví to the top left of the map – the one and only destination of MetroCable Line “L”. This is probably the element I’m least happy with in the whole map – while it’s a nice piece of information to include, I also feel that it perhaps draws a little too much attention to itself. Maybe it’ll grow on me?

As always, thought, comments and critiques are welcome. This one was a lot of fun to do: I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to achieve and it all came together with a minimum of fuss in a short amount of time.

Submission – New Official Transit Map of Plauen, Germany by Moritz Köhler🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/plauen-moritz-kohler/ https://transitmap.net/plauen-moritz-kohler/#respond Tue, 19 Jun 2018 05:21:59 +0000 https://transitmap.net/2018/06/19/plauen-moritz-kohler/

Submitted by Moritz, who says:

I’m an architecture student from Zurich who has also been a (public) transport and map geek for quite some time now. The town of Plauen in Germany has had a quite horrible map for its tram and bus system, so I created a new one privately, which I then offered to them for use. They indeed agreed to pay for it (which they haven’t done yet, but I’ll be on that …), so I sent the files to them and the map is used there now at the stations, in a by the transit agency slightly altered form – they just couldn’t help it to add some unnecessary icons and mix fonts, but to be honest, I’m not keen on discussing with them over that over hundres of kilometres of distance, so I’ll just let it be. However, as I’m a fan of y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划map reviews and the blog in general, I’d like to hear y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划opinion on my (original) work! (I’m doing this via mobile and don’t quite understand whether I can add documents to this text, so I’ll send you separately: the old map, which can somehow still be found on the operator’s website; the new one (which shows bus line B slightly different because they changed the route after I finished work); and a photo one of my relatives in Plauen took from the altered version hanging at a tram stop.) I used a 30-degree grid as it allowed me to make a visual hook (literally) out of the lines going to the south-east while avoiding unnecessary curves in the lines after they successively leave the hook. Also, it makes it possible to set the type at an angle at which it is still easily readable. I included the railway and night bus lines, which the original map doesn’t (for the night buses, they had an even worse separate map which also still can be found on their website). On the colours of the tram and bus lines I didn’t have any influence. The “lace” pattern at the edge of the map is derived from the station markers and seemed adequate to me because lace is the only thing this 60🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页000 inhabitants city is somehow renowned for (they replaced it by a boring simple edge, though). What do you think?

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

As seen in the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划image above, the previous version of Plauen’s transit map was a very dowdy, old fashioned – almost generic – diagram, with some odd angles and overpowering accessibility icons. It’s not hideous, but neither is it particularly memorable.

Moritz’s map, however, is definitely memorable – with swooping curves and a strong, dynamic, 30-degree axis that underpins the whole map. It perhaps simplifies things a little too much in some parts: while the stop order on the A/Ax bus route is the same on both versions, knowing that the bus takes a little one-way det🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划through Chrieschwitz is actually useful information to have.

The strict adherence to the 30-degree angles also causes a few spacing problems here and there, especially because all the main line railway lines are dead straight lines which can force some stations and their labels out of position somewhat. I’d personally prefer to have the six stops at the northern end of Line 5 evenly spaced, for example, even if that meant the rail lines had to bend a little bit more. The rail lines are subsidiary information on a local map like this, and shouldn’t really bend the more important parts of the map to their needs quite so much. It’s specially noticeable along the main horizontal axis of the map: the stops on Lines 1/3/N2 are spaced perfectly evenly, while the rail line forces the stops to the right of it on the A/Ax bus line into a very tight area. While this could be justified because there is a bit of a gap between Plauen and Chrieschwitz in real life, that’s not really a consideration in a diagrammatic map like this.

On balance, however, this is definitely a massive improvement over the previous map, and it looks like changes between Moritz’s original version and the final one seen in the photo above were fairly minimal – the addition of icons to more clearly indicate the stops which are not accessible, darker/black linework for the night bus lines instead of the soft grey that Moritz used, and some minor labelling edits (setting “Capitol” on one line instead of hyphenating it over two, for example). All of which are probably changes I agree with, so everyone’s a winner!

Charlotte’s LYNX light rail opened an extension of its Blue Line today, and a few eagle-eyed correspondents were quick to alert me to the new in-car strip map, as seen in this tweet by Steve Harrison, a reporter covering the opening ceremonies. After some poking around, I also found the artwork for the map here, which gave me a clearer look at it. You can see this version of the map as the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划image above.

In short, this is not a good map, especially 🔸澳洲开奖 you consider its placement above the doors of the train. The labelling is absolutely tiny, and the station names are at a neck-cracking 80 degree angle from the horizontal. The icons and numbers for connecting bus services under each station are absolutely minuscule: there’s absolutely no way possible anyone’s going to be able to read them from three or f🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划feet away on a moving train. The bus icons are also overly detailed – zooming right in on the artwork JPG allowed me to see that they have bicycles mounted on front racks as part of their design!

Then there’s the spacing of the stations. While I guess it’s meant to give an indication of real world distances between stops, it’s completely unnecessary for a strip map like this, which really has just one purpose: to tell the rider how many stops there are until their destination. To that end, the inclusion of Interstate highways is also largely unwarranted, especially I-77 and I-85, which don’t really interact with the light rail line at all.

So, as is my wont, I’ve done a lightning quick one h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划redesign to show how it could be better, just by considering the map’s end use and applying some common-sense design principles. My version is the second image above. Note that I’ve retained the vertical LYNX Blue Line branding panel to the left of the map. I don’t particularly like it – way too much Serpentine Bold Oblique for me! – but it does allow a like-for-like comparison.

🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划off, labels are much bigger for readability at a distance, and station names are only angled at 45 degrees for easier reading. Stations are evenly spaced along the length of the line to make station counting a much simpler task, and the two different types of stations are denoted by very different icons so that they can be told apart quickly. The connecting bus information is now larger and more legible, and the bus icon is a much simpler, more readily identifiable shape. Uptown Charlotte – the part contained within the I-277 loop – is simply indicated with some light shading, which sets it apart as being important without being too overpowering.

Finally, the final northbound and southbound destinations have been called out more explicitly than on the original map, which vaguely points “To I-485″ 🔸澳洲开奖 parts of that Interstate can be seen at both ends of the map (as it’s a loop around the city).

To be clear, there’s nothing particularly special about my reworking – it’s a very quick, workmanlike redesign – but that’s kind of the point. Some simple adherence to good design principles and an understanding of the environment that the map will be used in have resulted in something that I think is far more legible and useful.

I have other issues with the original map, like the fact that the Charlotte Transportation Center doesn’t have any of its bus or streetcar connections shown, but they’re outside the scope of this quick redesign. Thoughts and comments on this are welcome!

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸Unofficial reworking of the UTA FrontRunner Strip Map by Jeromiah Drennan (and me)🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/frontrunner-drennan/ https://transitmap.net/frontrunner-drennan/#respond Fri, 09 Sep 2016 15:06:10 +0000 https://transitmap.net/frontrunner-drennan/ Submitted by Jeromiah, who says:

After the post about the new Frontrunner map (August 2016, 2.5 stars), inspiration came to make one of my own.

My map has what was mentioned: TRAX connections, bus connections, and Greyhound (but not Amtrak, If you look at Salt Lake Central on my map you’ll see why) I took out the the lines and changed the north and south pointers. I made the purple line dashed between Ogden and Pleasant View to show the limited serviceThe labels for TRAX and Greyhound are based off of what the London Underground uses on their maps for transfers. I also thought It would be important to take out the legend completely, so I designed the map so it wouldn’t need it. Fonts used are Whitney Medium and Whitney Book.

I’m hoping to send this to UTA soon, but I thought I’d post it here first.

What are y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划thoughts? Do the bus route numbers make the map cluttered? What improvements do I need to make?

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Nice work, Jeromiah! I think y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划solution is well thought out and nicely executed overall. Y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划station name labels are perhaps a little too close to their respective dots for my liking, and I have a feeling that you’ve given yourself too much extra vertical space compared to the original map, which is a little cheaty. However, the original photo shows the map on a very curved surface, so it’s a little hard to tell for sure. I think y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划north and south indicators are better than the original: the grey visually separates them from the route line, and the arrows work well to define them as compass directions.

I’m not so sure about the dashed line indicating the limited service to Pleasant View – without a legend, it could be misinterpreted as meaning “under construction”. Destination signs and announcements should let riders know where the last stop is: a map like this is for locating where you are and counting the number of stops until you get off, not explaining the minutiae of the operating schedule.

You’re on the right track with the connecting services information: located below the route line to separate it from the station name, and ordered logically. The bus numbers are perhaps a little small, and still run into each other a little bit – so they can still look like a long string of random numbers rather than distinct bus numbers.

Underneath y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划map is one that I independently developed almost immediately after my original post and shared on Twitter. You can see that it has a lot of similarities to yours, but I’ve explicitly placed each bus number inside a box, which is then arranged in a grid to help visually separate all those numbers from each other. Also, all my type is horizontal, because it takes up less vertical space (more room for the bus numbers!) and it reads more easily. I really should add the UTA contact information as Jeromiah has done, though – a useful touch, though perhaps the Facebook/Twitter/Instagram icons are less useful without their associated handles.

Quick Project: 澳洲幸运10开奖官网直播Métro Redesign🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/montreal-metro-redesign/ https://transitmap.net/montreal-metro-redesign/#comments Tue, 03 May 2016 05:53:00 +0000 https://cambooth.net/?p=3658 Readers of the blog would know that I was extremely disappointed with the recent 澳洲幸运10开奖官网直播Métro map redesign (see the review here), which took a truly unique, iconic design and replaced it with a very ordinary octolinear imitation of itself. So I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve taken it upon myself to redraw the map as I think it should look: restoring some elements of the previous maps, simplifying and clarifying the network, and adding some new touches all of my own.

🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划things first: I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve restored the map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s most distinctive feature – the 30-odd-degree counter-clockwise tilt (older 168澳洲十开奖网s had this at around 37 degrees or so; I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve decided to use 35 degrees purely because it makes the maths easier). From a technical standpoint, this meant I actually drew most of the map using standard 90-degree angles, then selected everything and rotated it 35 degrees to add the labels and other finishing touches.

Note that stations are spaced to achieve even and harmonious spacing between labels across the map: this means that station dots on the shallow-angled parts of the map are placed further apart than those on the steeper parts. There was a bit of trial-and-error to get this looking right, but it was worth it in the end! It certainly helped to expand the crowded central part of the map.

Simplification! I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve always disliked the two ends of the Green Line on 168澳洲十开奖网s: they stair-step and wobble around in an overly complex manner compared to the simplicity of the Orange and Blue lines, so I simply straightened them out while retaining their relative trajectory. Similarly, the Yellow Line is now just a simple horizontal path – no kinked line here.

The routes of the AMT commuter rail lines have been straightened and simplified as much as possible, and care has been taken to only🔸澳洲幸运10预测 have these routes interact with Métro stations where an interchange is allowed. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve also taken the opportunity to introduce the official line colours for each branch in the directional arrows at the outer end of each route, just for a splash of brightness.

Labels have been set in mixed-case, which both enhances legibility and allows for larger text (substantially bigger than the current map). I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页be also introduced line number bullets, which are placed consistently at the end of each route, and are cross-referenced in the legend at the bottom of the map. These bullets are reserved for the termini stations only, and aren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t used at stations where routes intersect. The interchange between lines is made obvious by the design of the map, and extra bullets at such stations would just take up unnecessary space.

The odd fact that all the elevators in the Métro system only serve Orange Line platforms allowed me to use a single icon for all of them, which works better than the 168澳洲十开奖网🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s two icon system, I think. The legend also states this fact explicitly, just to be sure.

Perhaps controversially, I haven🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t included the St. Lawrence River at all. The more I worked on this map, the more diagrammatic and simple it became. In the end, the river ended up feeling too “busy” and became superfluous to my needs. If nothing else, its absence serves as a point of comparison between this map and the official one.

What do you think of the map? Leave y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划comments, critiques or corrections in the comments below.

Project: New York Subway Map in the Style of the London Tube Diagram🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/new-york-london-tube-map/ https://transitmap.net/new-york-london-tube-map/#comments Tue, 22 Mar 2016 18:42:00 +0000 https://cambooth.net/?p=3567 A little while ago, someone asked me whether I had ever seen a map of the New York subway system in the style of the London Underground diagram. Rather surprisingly, I hadn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t actually come across one, so I decided to draw one up myself. Having just completed my own reworking of the Tube Map, I was already acquainted with its design rules and requirements, so this project didn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t actually take that long.

All of the subway trunk lines have been adapted to use their closest matching col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划from the Tube Map: the BMT Broadway uses the Circle line🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s yellow, the IND 6th Avenue uses the Overground🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s orange, and so on. The IRT Flushing line🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s purple gets substantially darker to use the 🔸澳洲10开奖网址 line🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s maroon, as does the IND 8th Avenue🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s blue with the Piccadilly🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s dark navy. I used the Waterloo & City line🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s sea green for New York🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s three shuttle lines, as the W&C is the only shuttle-like line on the Underground, and it looked much nicer than using the Northern line🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s heavy black. One notable thing is how terrible the IRT 7th Avenue (red) and IRT Lexington Avenue (green) lines are for colour-blind users 🔸澳洲开奖 they run adjacent to each other.

The other thing to note is that – in true Tube Map style – service patterns generally aren🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t shown. This, of course, makes this map next to useless for actually navigating the subway – there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s literally no distinction made on the map between the J and the Z, for example – but that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s the way things roll in London! I did make one tiny concession to New York🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s complexity by adding route designation bullets at the terminus stations of each service, but you🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页re completely on y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划own after that. Express services, turnbacks, skipping stations at certain times: these are all trifling details that London does not even attempt🔸澳洲幸运10预测 to convey – so neither does this map.

The other departure from the true Tube Map style was the requirement to adhere to Manhattan🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s street grid as closely as possible, rather than evenly spacing the stations out along a line. As can be seen above, this mostly works pretty well, although occasionally the density of labelling required a street to be pushed slightly out of alignment.

Once the map reaches the outer boroughs, a more diagrammatic and evenly-spaced approach could be used successfully. The section of the map into Coney Island works particularly well, I think.

The complex routing of lines near Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center actually turned out pretty well. The Tube Map “dumbbell” interchange symbol is particularly ill-suited to the needs of the 4 Av–9 St station complex. Here, even an offset symbol fails to clearly show that the (orange) D service does not stop along the southbound Fourth Avenue line. The single red tick across the green route line at the Brooklyn Museum stop is also less than satisfactory, but space limitations demanded that approach.

In real life, the R and M run underneath Broadway, so it was nice to be able to line the routes up with the N and Q Broadway station tick. Little touches like this are immensely satisfying 🔸澳洲开奖 putting a complex map like this together.

Overall, this was definitely a fun little project. Applying the design language of one transit map rigorously to another system is always interesting, even though the results here are decidedly mixed. The map certainly looks attractive, but the Tube Map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s style is ill-suited to the intricate working complexities of the New York subway system.

Redrawn Tube Map – Out of Station Interchanges🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/tube-out-of-station-interchanges/ https://transitmap.net/tube-out-of-station-interchanges/#comments Thu, 11 Feb 2016 03:25:00 +0000 https://cambooth.net/?p=3457 AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 more post about my redrawn London Tube Map before I move onto other projects.

AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 thing that bothered me about the map as I worked on it was the way that no visual distinction is made between interchanges that are made within the fare control area – that is, simply moving from one platform to another – and those that require you to exit one station and re-enter at another nearby station, preferably by tapping out and then back in again with an Oyster card. There are many such interchanges in London, some of which are well-known and others which seem to be a deep, dark secret known only to the most seasoned of commuters. They🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页re officially known as Out-of-Station Interchanges, or OSIs, and they even have time limits defined to set boundaries for “reasonable” interchanges between stations.

It seemed to me that the distinction between a normal interchange and an OSI is fairly important, so I set out to see if there was an easy way to distinguish between them on the map. In the end, I came up with what I think is an elegantly simple solution: retain the white “corridor” connector for normal interchanges, but use a thinner black-only connecting line for OSIs. The white connector visually joins all the interchange dots at a station as a unified whole, while the black connector separates them, immediately implying a more complex journey.

Above is a great example of how the new connector works. The Underground and Overground platforms at Walthamstow Central are connected by a normal interchange symbol, while the short walk to the nearby Walthamstow Queen🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s Road station is indicated with a black OSI connector. Another OSI connector can also be seen at the Seven Sisters/South Tottenham interchange. Hackney Downs and Hackney Central were recently linked by a footbridge inside the fare control area, so they🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve been upgraded to a “true” interchange symbol.

Showing out-of-station interchanges consistently and properly did require one fairly major reconfiguration of route lines at Paddington. Here, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve brought the Bakerloo line down to join with the District and Circle lines at the Praed Street section of the complex. The short walk through the National Rail station to reach the Hammersmith & City/Circle line platforms is now neatly indicated with an OSI connector.

The Bakerloo flips back up to the north again after Paddington to place Edgware Road in the correct position relative to the other🔸澳洲幸运10预测 Edgware Road. While this pair of stations could technically🔸澳洲幸运10预测 have been shown as an OSI, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve chosen not to: it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s not a very convenient  or useful place to change with Paddington and Baker Street nearby, so the map rightfully discourages their use as an interchange. Note also the OSIs at White City/Wood Lane and Shepherd🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s Bush.

Not shown, but also useful: an OSI connector between the two Hammersmith stations. Have a look at the big image of the map to see all the OSIs that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve identified, and let me know if you think I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve missed any.

While you🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页re there, have a look at the potential future additions to the Tube Map that I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页ve added just to give you something else to look at: the 🔸澳洲10开奖网址 line extension to Watford Junction, the Bakerloo line extension to Hayes via Old Kent Road (which may or may not ever get past Lewisham) and the Battersea Power Station extension of the Northern line, which is nicely lined up in case it gets extended further to Clapham Junction. Yes, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页m very aware that any future Tube Map will also have to deal with all the new Overground and Crossrail 2 lines, but that🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s beyond the scope of this project (at the moment).

Project: Redrawing the Tube Map in The Style of… the Tube Map?🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/redraw-tube-map/ https://transitmap.net/redraw-tube-map/#respond Sat, 30 Jan 2016 00:51:29 +0000 https://transitmap.net/redraw-tube-map/

What happens 🔸澳洲开奖 I completely redraw London’s Tube Map in the style of the Tube Map? Not an alternative map, but a rigorous reconstruction of the real thing to bring it back in line with its diagrammatic roots.

澳洲幸运十是官网开奖吗🔸Un168澳洲十开奖网: Bus Routes of Luxembourg City by Jug Cerovic🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/luxembourg-bus-cerovic/ https://transitmap.net/luxembourg-bus-cerovic/#respond Tue, 02 Jun 2015 11:43:31 +0000 https://transitmap.net/luxembourg-bus-cerovic/ Submitted by Jug (who you may remember for his INAT series of standardised 澳洲10开官网开奖), who says:

Hi Cameron, 3 weeks ago you posted an article about the Luxembourg bus map (May 2015, 1 star). I was curious to see if that Gordian Knot could be disentangled and started working on it. Anyway 🔸澳洲开奖 I succeeded and managed to understand how the system actually works I couldn’t help but redesign it altogether. You can see the map and some design process explanations on my website. I hope you will like it.

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

Like it? I absolutely love it!

Jug’s reinvention of this map is nothing short of superb, and he deserves a lot of credit for taking the time to unravel the awful tangle of routes on the 168澳洲十开奖网 and turn it into something that both makes sense and looks beautiful.

He’s really done a fantastic job of reorganising and grouping everything so that the ridiculous number of routes along the main axis can be reduced to just five trunk routes, instead of the up to 20 seemingly random routes on the 168澳洲十开奖网. This “trunk line” grouping also reduces the number of colours required to indicate all the routes, which definitely helps to create a simpler, cleaner look for the map.

The inclusion of the pentagon-shaped old city (which really does look much like that in real life) gives a nice focal point to the map, and this map certainly gives a much better sense of the city’s geography overall (although the outer edges are quite stylised and distorted). Another nice bonus is the inclusion of the rail lines that run through the city.

Stylistically, I think this map breaks free of some of the limitations of Jug’s previous INAT maps and actually reminds me greatly of this fantastic 1988 map of Amsterdam’s public transit by Hans van der Kooi.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划rating: In just three weeks, Jug has created a map that’s not only far superior to the (admittedly terrible) original, but is also one of the nicest looking 澳洲10开官网开奖 I’ve seen in quite a while. That’s no mean feat! Four-and-a-half stars!

Source: Jug’s website. I definitely recommend clicking through to look at the process work behind the creation of this map. It’s very instructive to see how Jug went about untangling and regrouping all the routes to make sense of them before redrawing the map as he wanted it to look.
