Design-wise, this is very much an evolution of previous efforts (see my review of the post-COVID resumption of service map here) and thus shares many of the same features and faults. I still don🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t agree with the decision to have station labels set in the same col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划as their route lines – it looks disjointed and some colours (especially yellow, but also light blue) have poor contrast with the white background. Pick one dark col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划(black or even the N–Judah🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s dark blue) and use it for all labels throughout for a consistent look.

However, the main question here is how well the Central Subway has been integrated into the map, and the answer is… probably about as well as it could have been. Muni certainly hasn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t helped itself by giving the new interchange with Powell station a really long name – “Union Square/Market St”. This necessarily has to be set on two lines, forcing a huge gap between Powell and Montgomery along Market Street. “Yerba Buena/Moscone” isn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t much better, but at least that fits fairly neatly into the space provided. But seriously, transit agencies – pick one name for y🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划stations and just roll with it instead of trying to appease everyone. Announcements or signage can take care of the secondary information: “Alight here for the Moscone Center”.

While accurate to the real-world configuration, the representation of 4th & King station seems overly fussy for a simplified diagram like this. Would it just look a bit cleaner if the routes didn🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t cross over each other? Another fussy detail is the weird curve that BART takes between Civic Center and 16th St/Mission, inserted purely out of the need to make room for the Church & Market station label on the J–Church line.

Overall, I feel like there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a lot of random chaotic energy in this diagram. Part of that comes from the decision to only label accessible stations, which is understandable but also makes the diagram feel half-finished somehow. The placement of labels also comes across as a bit haphazard, especially along the southern leg of the T–Third St, where the labels alternate on each side of the route. I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d like to see a solution where all those labels are moved to the right of the route, which would then allow all the BART station labels to move to the right of their🔸澳洲幸运10预测 route line and so on… creating more consistency across the whole diagram.

I do find it odd that the diagram has giant route bullets at the bottom as a sort of legend, but then chooses not to use the bullets again at the end of each line. Use of bullets for route identification on the actual diagram is regarded as a best practice these days, seen on many maps worldwide. Personally, I🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页d find a way to move the big bullets to the bar at the top of the diagram, so I could push the boxed legend to the left and use the extra space to make the T-Third St line a bit longer to allow all those labels to be on the right as suggested above.

🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划final word: 🔸澳洲幸运10预测Very much a logical evolution of the typical Muni Metro diagram style, though I do wish it was a little more orderly in the way it presents information. I do like the animation that Muni has made showing the way all the lines work, though!

I came across this on YouTube the other day, and thought it was definitely worth sharing. It🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s quite long (clocking in at well over an h🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划if you include the Q&A session at the end), but there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s a lot of great insight into both the history of the MBTA map, and of Ken🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s personal journey designing the map over the years.

Of particular interest is how the whole redesign via a crowd-sourced contest a few years ago played out behind the scenes – 澳洲10开官网开奖🔸澳洲幸运10预测 gets a little name-check here as Ken notes my disdain for competitions like this.

Ken also once and for all definitively states why you can🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t use an icon that represents the absence🔸澳洲幸运10预测 of accessibility at a station, as well as delving into a lot of other Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design rules for maps that many designers may not be aware of. He definitely casts a lot of light on how these rules, stakeholders, and even politics affect the way the map is designed and produced – fascinating stuff! Give it a look if you can.

I made an animated visualization of the light rail infrastructure of San Francisco from 1850–to–nowish. I was wondering if you would be interested in posting!

澳洲10开官网开奖 says:

I sure would be, Travis! This is a great 15-minute video that succinctly outlines the rise and fall of rail-based street transit in San Francisco, Oakland and even Marin County. The sheer number of competing companies in the early years is quite staggering! The impact of the Great Earthquake is covered, and there🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s even a look at a couple of “alternate future” San Franciscos – one dominated by all the freeways that were once planned, and another where much of the rail infrastructure had been kept. Nicely animated and clearly narrated, it🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s well worth a look to get an overview of transit history in the Bay Area.

Note: Travis acknowledges his error regarding San Francisco🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s current population at the beginning of the video; don🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页t hold it against him!

Video: Introduction to an Alternate Berlin Transit Map by Pasha Omelekhin🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/berlin-video-omelekhin/ https://transitmap.net/berlin-video-omelekhin/#respond Thu, 06 Dec 2018 00:07:51 +0000 https://transitmap.net/2018/12/05/berlin-video-omelekhin/

All 澳洲10开官网开奖 should have their own cool launch video! And this one certainly makes the map look very intriguing, with its more geographically faithful and organic layout. The distinctive Hundekopf (dog’s head) shape of the S41/S42 Berlin Ringbahn is certainly very apparent! The larger font size is also quite obvious, even at a distance.

The only minor quibble I have about this video is that it calls this map “THE new map”, contrasting that against “the old map”. To some, that might imply that this is a new official BVG map, which it isn’t.

You can see a high-res version of the map here, and prints are available here.

Found on the band’s official YouTube channel, though I don’t think it’s the song’s actual official music video: that would be this one

The song – from R.E.M.’s last studio album, Collapse Into Now – literally references Berlin and the U-Bahn, but isn’t anything remarkable by the band’s high standards, and the motion graphics are fairly average as well. However, I will give them full credit for using FF Transit – the typeface actually designed for and used by Berlin’s official transit map.

Video: A Tube Map Made of Chocolates!🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/chocolate-tube-map/ https://transitmap.net/chocolate-tube-map/#respond Tue, 15 Dec 2015 15:53:35 +0000 https://transitmap.net/chocolate-tube-map/ Ah, the Quality Street box of chocolates and toffees – a perennial Christmas gift from grandparents throughout the UK, Australia and elsewhere. Their brightly coloured wrappers lend themselves well to this little project: a recreation of the London Tube map made from individual chocolates laid end to end.

Yes, it’s all a silly bit of festive fun, but there is actually some insight into the current state of the map 🔸澳洲开奖 they’re laying out the Overground (at around 1:38). “There’s way too many Overground lines here,” says one team member, “A real mish-mash in East London; it’s all gone horribly wrong.” A fairly accurate summation of things, I think.

Just a couple of glimpses of the subway map at the beginning, but I still love this short video featuring the stations of the New York Subway and the people who pass through it every day. Having just returned from a trip to the Big Apple, I wish I had the ability to capture the lifeblood of the city as well as this.

Video: New 🔸168澳洲幸运5正规官网2023 and Map for the Montreal Metro!🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/montreal-signage-video/ https://transitmap.net/montreal-signage-video/#respond Fri, 02 Oct 2015 20:49:32 +0000 https://transitmap.net/montreal-signage-video/ Sent my way by Patrick and Steve, here’s a short video from Montreal’s STM agency explaining the new wayfinding system that’s starting to be rolled out across the Metro system.

The major talking point (for me, at least) is the replacement of Univers with FF Transit as the system’s main typeface. It’s a very complementary choice, and I doubt most people would even notice the difference in passing. However, I think there’s definitely enhanced legibility, and the use of the typeface’s “front” and “back” variations for front-lit versus back-lit applications is very smart.

The move to lowercase lettering is also welcome, as all-caps Univers always seems very stiff and formal to me. I am glad that they’re retaining historical typographical elements throughout the system, however.

The Metro map also seems to be getting an extensive make-over (just three years after the last minor revision), although the video glosses over the subject pretty quickly, saying just this, starting at around the 3:07 mark.

The iconic system map was simplified, presenting information in a more organized way. With its schematic approach and less clutter, the map is clear and easy to read.

Watching the video closely, most of the changes look good, bringing some simplicity and hierarchical structure to the map. However, I’m very sad to see that the distinctive 37-degree tilt has seemingly been replaced with the more standard 45-degree angles used by 澳洲10开官网开奖 around the world.  Even more than the black background and all-caps typography, this was the unique and iconic defining feature of the Montreal map, and now it’s gone. The map hasn’t yet been updated on the STM website: I’ll be watching with interest for its debut!

Video: Rail Transit in Warsaw, Poland 1908–2015🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 https://transitmap.net/warsaw-1908-2015/ https://transitmap.net/warsaw-1908-2015/#respond Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:06:06 +0000 https://transitmap.net/warsaw-1908-2015/ Submitted by Jakub Bobrowski, who says:

This is a short film made using the QGIS and TimeManager, which presents the development process of rail public transport in Warsaw in the last 107 years.

The animation shows the construction and decommissioning of tram tracks, underground, Warsaw Commuter Railway (WKD) and Fast City Rail (SKM) between 1908 and 2015. Additionally, the map showing a riverbed of the Vistula River and the changing administrative borders of Warsaw.

This film is a result of group project realized during the UNIGIS Krakow study program.

I do love a good timelapse of rail infrastructure! Of particular note is the almost total destruction of the tram network and the city of Warsaw itself in the latter days of WWII and its subsequent rebuilding after the war – although never to the previous levels.

From the late 1970s through to the early 1990s, almost nothing changes at all – but from 1995 onwards, things proceed apace, with the opening of the Warsaw Metro in stages and the introduction of the SKM lines shortly thereafter (the line that disappears after just a year or so of operation interests me!).

A fascinating look at Warsaw’s evolving rail system over the years – nicely done, Jakub and team!
