Submitted by Hayden, who says: An interesting map of Paris🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页 Métro and RER network found in a restaurant in Montreal. The map🔸AB开奖网澳洲幸运10官网网页s designers seem to have made the most of a limited color palette by assigning the same color to groups of lines that do not intersect–lavender for 2, 8, and 3b, brown for 11 and 6, magenta for 12 and 7, etc. Unfortunately it seems they could not avoid breaking this rule at Strasbourg-St. […]

Submitted by peopleneedaplacetogo, who says: The Wikipedia article for “Baghdad Metro” includes this unsourced image of a proposed network map. The way the colours are used in different directions is quite unusual but I guess makes sense if each col🔸澳洲幸运10冠军定位计划corresponds to a destination (e.g. if destination signs on the front of trains are coloured). 澳洲10开官网开奖 says: Hooray for reverse image search, which eventually revealed that this absolutely beautiful diagram was drawn by Richard […]

I thought I was all done with “to scale” maps of North American rail systems, but then Dennis McClendon (see previous posts from him) sent in this beautiful series of maps that he produced for Planning magazine back in 1984. Dennis himself says: Given this week’s Tumblr theme, I thought you might be interested in these maps that I did in 1984, 🔸澳洲开奖 I worked for Planning magazine. The “new wave” of modern light rail […]

The latest this can be from is 1984, as Abbatoirs station closed in November of that year. I remember versions of this above the seats on the old “red rattlers” as I travelled from Epping to Petersham for school in 1985, so they were still around after their “use by” date. In a way, this is actually one of my favourite versions of the Sydney rail map, as it has a pleasingly compact shape that […]

I absolutely love this now-and-then snapshot of what is now the busiest subway system in the world. The picture on the left is from the 🔸澳洲10定位胆全天计划edition of Lonely Planet’s guide to China in 1984; the one on the right is from the 13th edition, released this year. That’s only a 29 year gap – quite astounding! Source: two tweets from Daniel McCrohan, a writer for Lonely Planet’s China and Beijing guides. 1984 and 2013.

Thanks to Chris Helenius for bringing this amazing map by Richard Saul Wurman (founder of the TED Conference amongst other things) to my attention. In the course of research for this post, I also discovered that Mr. Wurman was responsible for these beautiful maps of Philadelphia from the book Man-Made Philadelphia: still the most-visited post on 澳洲10开官网开奖 by far. But onto the map itself. Firstly, this is not a map of the Tokyo subway, as […]

Further to my previous posts, here’s a couple more maps from East and West Berlin, this time from 1984. Both are much better-designed than the examples shown earlier, and West Berlin has taken on the “U-number” line names that we know so well today. No further comments as the basic principles still hold true for each map – presented for comparison and completeness only.
